Preping for LT-8 install ???

Well I'm getting ready for it. I have the stock ECU, wire harness (from ecu to engine bay) out of the car. I have some ?'s for the guys that have them up & running.

So you know what I've done.....The ECU has 3 harnesses that plug into it. Only the two smaller ones go to the engine bay through the fire wall on the passanger side ( have these out). The biggest one goes over to the driver's side. Can I leave it in? Do I need any of the wires?

What wires do I need in the harness that has the wippers & engine temp wires in it?

What I mean is, I have that harness in my hand & know what the wires are for the wippers & engine temp. sensor. But, What other wires in that harness do I need? Their was two wires that went from that harness to the other yellowish harness. (looks just like it but a tad smaller) Do I need them?

I need all the stock stuff to still work. all the gauges,a/c,lights, everything!

Help.........

Ok.

The a/c is a thing your gonna kinda have to figure out on your own. Once I get a chance to look at the wiring diagrams in the car, ill see if I can get mine working. As far as the wipers, you have to unwrap the stock harness. Youll see where they come out and plug in inside the car once its unwrapped. As far as the water temp, I havent figured that one out yet. My plan is just to look at the DASH unit for water temp.

for water temp I just use my laptop to check the temp. I don't think you can control the stock gauge without the stock ECU. Invest in an aftermarket one :(

HIMNI Racing 05-31-03 11:34 PM

I have aftermarket gauges in the car for everything. Boost, water temp, oil press,EGT,A/F,volts,fuel press, tach. No prob. there.

All my stock gauges worked to. all but the boost. I hated that thing.

Anyway, I know what wires I need for the engine temp(yellow) & the wippers. They are in the same harness.

My ? is, what else can/will I loose(gauges, lights, etc.) when I put in the Microtech?

bl|nk 05-31-03 11:38 PM

well i don't have a/c anymore so I don't know about that part.

Do you still have cruise control? It's on the same plug set (those two) that the cruise control and the stock water temp gauge is on.

For the stock water gauge you'd either have to pull that single wire from the harness or cut and splice a new wire in.

Other than that.. everything worked on my car.

Bllnk,

This is the plug/harness that goes to the wippers & temp. sensor (on the wipper motor side) Is this one of the "two upper plugs" that you are talking about? You can see that red-ish & black wire, they went into the ECU harness.

HIMNI Racing 06-01-03 01:35 AM

Here's the same one with the other one that looks just like it.

HIMNI Racing 06-01-03 01:43 AM

This is a white one(s) that is on one of the two above. The bigger one went to the press. sensor in the cab. ( not the one on the shock tower) need it or cut in out?

bl|nk 06-01-03 11:59 AM

yup just trace the wires from the wiper motor back and it should be to that plug you're hodling.

not exactly sure what the white plug is.. I don't recall having that on my car.. is you'rs an S4? maybe that's why *shrugs*. Either that it's the cruise control plug :)i'll snap some pics of mine tonight after i pull my motor or maybe monday depends on how lazy i am :)

Leave the Std wiring for the AC then it is only a matter of bridging the two pins on the orginal ECU plug..
The std ECU used to shut the AC relay under some conditions, this just bypasses that. they are terminals 1E and 1F in the FSM pages 48-31 and 48-33

yeah leave the Std wire and it works as per normal.

the STD boost gauge can be kept too as i posted last weekHERE .

when I pulled out my std wiring I cut open the engine loomand only took out what was getting replaced(there a little different for RHD cars like mine).. this left about 5 or 6 wires in total heading back to the std ECU area. they were the boost gages wires, the coolant temp sender wire, the STD E fan temp sender (if your car has it)

that gets your dash working as it should.. nothing worse than seeing "dead" gauges in someone's car even if they have one of everything from the autometer catalog :D its so easy it is just lazy not to get them working!

Right on! If the culster is in the car, then it should work.

Std A/C wireing? Which ones are they? I need a FSM...BAD!

kabooski 06-01-03 09:25 PM

you can download the FSM

HIMNI Racing 06-01-03 10:24 PM

But their's nothing like having the book.

How much space does that take up on the putter? (down loading the FSM)

TonyTurboII 06-02-03 12:22 AM

83mb.

I couldnt find the 48- pages, so I searched the wiring diagram chapters, (50- sections). I did find a lot of a/c wiring plugs and schematics, but I wasnt too sure what I was looking at, and none of the plugs were labeled. Only their colors were shown.

Sorry my fault.. it is 4B not 48 lol :D... its in the ECU section.

One thing i noticed after posting that is my factory Efan is now on all the time (with ING).. I will sort some other way out of doing this and post it up when done..(maybe hook the Std e fand to the MT??)

if you don't have the std Efan then there are no worries

Cool I use one big E-fan for the cooling. I have a small one that I can flip on if the temps go up. No prob. there.

TonyTurboII 06-02-03 11:34 PM

It has the remark "Blower Motor ON" Is this the aux fan outside, or the blower motor inside the car?

Adsy01 06-03-03 02:36 AM

yeah they mean the incabin heater blower fan
