Newbie Questions about MicroTech System!
Reading from the other forum, I noticed Brandon said this will be the last group buy, so I guess I'll get in on this one, since the cost will be quite a discount. But I'm really gonna need some help here. I don't have a clue about ECU management, nor what is needed to do it. Of the items listed on the site, which will I need to get the ECU to run as well as be able to make slight alterations to the programing? Does the hand controller have everything you need to program it, or will I need to use a laptop (which I dont have, can a PC be used instead somehow?)?
And most importantly, how is the support for the product? I know I am going to need some help for sure, and I wanna be able to have someone to get information from (online sources are fine). Just give me a rundown and which parts are necessary, and what each of the optional ones does, if you can. Thanks |

Everything else is purely optional. :) Brandon BR7 Racing |
-If your using the stock boost control solenoid, get a MBC ahead of time.
-Get one of those "fancy" auto wire strippers. It'll save a good chunk of time. -Solder all of your connections. Don't use any type of crimp/tap-in connector. Extra time pays off when all of your connections are good. For basic stuffs, read my thread called "Do I have everything I need for an install?" or something to that effect. :) |

Originally posted by No7Yet The laptop adapter can be used on a computer too - you just run a serial cable from the ECU to the computer. You can do it all with the hand controller, but I recommend that you save it for on-road and last-minute tuning. At this point I'm thinking I'll go with the LT8 with the Computer Adapter and Hand Controller. That sound like enough to get me started comfortably? |

Can the base maps be set up before hand, and then do modifications with the hand tuner once the ECU is in the car, or is it required to be set up the ECU and wiring before you can even program anything? At this point I'm thinking I'll go with the LT8 with the Computer Adapter and Hand Controller. That sound like enough to get me started comfortably? It comes preloaded with a base map that should be somewhat suited for your application. Basically your install would go like this: Remove stuff. Wire in stuff. Replace stuff. Calibrate TPScal (TPS calibration in the ECU). Start car. Warm up. Lock timing (function of the ECU). Set timing. Unlock timing. Recalibrate TPS. Go to a tuner...or start using a wide band :) |
I need some prices. I THINK, the LT-8 w/ flying leads, hand controllor (4 line, i think) & the dash unit.
I would like to use my stock senders. |
ohk i have a laptop so i would use that. is there any better sensors than the factory ones? if so are they listed there? if not is there some sort of harness adapter to the factory harness or will u end up makin a new one no matter what?

K2RD sells connectors that you can use for some of the stock sensors. |
Ok, I got another question:
Will this ECU have what it takes to run my smog components and get me to pass California's emmisions test? |
You wont be able to run this ECU LEGALLY and pass emmissions, there is no carb number. As far as making the car pass with the ECU, you MIGHT be able too, but I am just glad I don't have to deal with emmissions :P

So just the LT-8 itself with come with EVERYTHING you need to get the car running? Does it come with a MAP sensor? If not, you would need to buy one to start the car I'm assuming...
anybody have a link to another thread that lists everything needed, a write-up kinda deal. -marc |
The LT8 package includes:
ECU (with integrated MAP sensor) flying lead harness fuse fuel pump relay vacuum hose (for the map sensor) manual Assuming you have an already-running car, that's all you'll need to get up and running. :) Poke around through the other threads - what you seek is listed somewhere. At the worst, you'll waste a lot of time learning about the Microtech. ;) Brandon BR7 Racing |
Thanks alot man....

Hey Brandon I sent you a PM
I'm interested in joining the group buy if it isn't too late. Whats the difference between the LTX 8 and 12? |
Hey I just found out that the group is still active
Anyways I'm ready to put my order down. But I have some questions. There is a choice for the LT8 and the LTX8 what is the difference? My engine setup consist of a: TO4S Street Port FD Intake Manifold Fuel 500cc & 1600cc <<< Still undecided on FMIC Aiming for 450hp Would a LT12 be useful for my setup? Or is the LT8 right on for my setup? |
LTX uses bosch coils(higher output then stock) while
the LT uses the stock coils as for your setup yours and mine are similer The LT would be fine |
Yeah, you'd want the LT8. Don't need the LT12 unless you got an extra rotor or want to drive extra coils/injectors. Also, from what I've read, kabooski is right, at 450hp, you should be fine on stock coils... You may be close to the limit, but seems like there's a lot of folks around doing that (or more) on the stock coils...

Just wondering for the LT8 how much HP/PSI can it control up to?
Can I run a cranes ignition with the box still? and an aquamist system? |
The basic LT8 has a 20 PSI MAP sensor, but there's a 3 BAR (30psig) MAP option if that's not enough. :)
We don't have any direct experience with using an LT8 with a CDI system, but we don't foresee any problems. If we can convince Microtech to begin making MT2 units again, you'll have direct 2D control over the aquamist. Till then, you can use the aux output if you want. Brandon BR7 Racing |
