Need help! ltx8
ok im in the process of installation and my understanding this model computer has the ignitor built in the ecu so I have 91 t2 swap im using and want use the t2 coils so i stripped the ingnitors off them and confused on how to wire them on the coils theself. Do I wire the wire to the postive side of the coil or negiative side?

leave the ignitors in the coils, where anywhere did it say to remove them? there is plenty of info about wiring up the coil circuit with a search of this subforum. all 3 ground control circuit wires replace the ones from the factory harness to the stock ECU, the rest of the wiring must remain intact if you want a functioning tachometer and ignition system. the thick black/yellow wire is the power going to the coils, leave this wire alone or rewire it off a ignition switched relay to the battery! for the leading coil the other wire is your trigger circuit off the microtech, i can't recall from memory the color of the ignition wires for the trailing coil pack.
the LT8x has ignition control but it is not a built in ignitor, it is a built in timing trigger which is a low amperage grounding circuit as is most everything on these POS's. |
On the ltx8 how do people use 2x set of trailing coils? , so i have to use the stock ignitors cause.... Those dont have a built in ignitor in the ecu right?, then whats the difference on the lt8 and ltx8 then...

i don't recall which series they started having ignition control with but i know that the LT8x and LT8s have ignition control.
i don't know of anyone who runs two trailing coils because the leading is a waste spark setup and you would need to have microtech modify the EMS to run two leading coils versus the stock configuration setup. the LT8x comes defaulted with a single wire to control the stock leading coil pack. you could alter this without sending it back to microtech but i think you are referring to people who have used other ignition control modules such as MSD, Dynatek, Jacobs, etc to control multiple coils off the ECU signal. the ECU ignition signal is a simple signal to trigger the spark at a certain time, think of the ignition after the ECU as a seperate entity which still requires an igniter to amplify, divide and control the spark without putting any stress on the ECU. |
LTX 8 is full sequential ECU with inbuilt igniters,, IE it drives FOUR plain jane coils without internal igniters
usually this is 4 x HEC 715,, but can be 4 x FC trailing coils with igniters bypassed just simply wire 12v to the + side,, and the ECU to the - side of each coil yellow is for leading coils orange is for trailing coils black strip always denotes rotor 2 set the dwell to fixed time base and use around 3.5 ms in screen 31 |
does it have an external ignition control module? if so i might have mistaken it for the newer models, i could have sworn the X was the most recent which was made to be basically plug n play after soldering the connectors.

LTX has inbuilt igniters in the ECU case
LTS uses the external igniters x4/x6 box the L is for laptop version,, M is the older handset only versions MT/LT ( without suffix ) has only drivers and is intended to use the stock coils with inbuilt ignitiers ( in early MTX,, it will come up with software for "MT coilpack" ( not mtx or ltx ) and is also for 4 coils ) |
i guess i'm getting alzheimers from sniffing too much hylomar and vaseline. there is also the blue box version which i think was the original LT8s. i could have swore i had the LT8x version but i guess its the s version.

blue box is digi 1 and 2 and pro
,, digi 2 pro is fuel and ignition and is basically the precursor mt-8 and is designed to run sequential trailing and wastespark leading ( as distinct from the LTX which is 4 individual coil drivers,, not 3 ) |
