MT mounting location

Okay, maybe I missed the threads on this, but just curious where all of you are mounting your MTs at??

I'm thinking just back in the stock ECU location, but I won't be able to see the pretty lights that way, so I'm not sure if I should find a place that is more visible and more easily accessible.

let's hear your thoughts please...and why you chose that location?

I put mine in my glovebox. I cut out a big enough hole in the back of the box for the harness and the vac line. The ECU is mounted so the lights and laptop plug is facing out. I really like it there and the door hides everything when I'm not using the laptop. The only downfall is the glovebox door has to remain open while tuning, but I don't think that's a big deal. I chose the glovebox because I didn't want the ECU to be out in the open, attached to the kick panel for example, and I didn't care for the stock ECU location, I wanted to see the lights on the ECU in case of an error occured.

Same place for me. You can see some pictures on my webpage.

I put mine in the stock location, and hooked in into a switch seen here.

It switches from my dash unit, to a female 9pin under my radio.

Heres the dash unit, and my gauges pod, third spot now filled with a boost gauge.

I'll probably have It mounted In the glove box using heavy duty velcro, mounted upside down to still allow misc stuff In there. I'd like to keep it clean and have the lights/connector visable.

hmm, I'm still a little torn on this... I don't really want the whole thing visible, but it would be handy to be able to see the lights and at least somewhat easily accessible for hooking up the laptop, etc.

but I don't really want to take up the space in the glove box.. maybe I could figure out something with the center console. Or possible a blank din plate and just make an opening for the lights. I dunno...

guess I'll have to get out there and fool around w/ various locations and see what is possible...

thanks!!

For one thing, the light is in the top of the glove box, lol. For another, its so thin it wouldnt take up hardly any space mounted to the bottom of the box, (see the picture in the link the other guy posted above.) The only negative about this location is that it takes up too much of the harness IMHO. The harness has to be run under the blower motor. Also, the lights (I think) arent on if something is hooked into the serial port, so any info you would need from them can be seen on whatever youve got hooked up.

That's a good point, I bought the dash unit and the hand controller, so would I even care about those lights? If not, then it'll probably go in stock ECU location...with some easy method for hookup like you've done Tony.

Well, im just trying to quote from the manual. Those lights indicate if the TPS is correctly set, and it will show error codes (sensor checks). Both can be done from the handset. I cant remember if they do a third thing. I'll look at the manual and get back to this.

I mounted mine in the stock location. What do you need to see the lights for? I thought all the errors could be read off the laptop, dash, or hand controller.

For the guys that mounted it in the stock spot:
How did you do it? Did the holes line up with the stock mounting points?

I just fabed a templet of the stock ECU & mounted it to that.

Josepi 10-24-03 10:11 AM

Mines mounted where the stock ECU should be. Mounted directly to the backside of the metal guard.

TonyTurboII 10-24-03 01:30 PM

Same here. I just drilled holes. It uses 3 of the 4 mounting points on the ECU.
