Microtech using GM TPS

Ok has anyone set the LTX8 up with the GM TPS that is used by the Haltech guys? Its way cheaper than a new S5 TPS so I want to use it. How hard would it be to set it up with the LTX8. I understand that I will have to make a custom bracket for the TPS to bolt onto the throttle body but I want to know about the electronic setup. I have not seen the sensor or a pic of it yet but I am told that it works with the E6K so I was hopping to set it up with the LTX8 I am looking to buy. :)

it willl work no problems at all, you will find some wiring digrams for them in the back of your manual,

Cool I can't wait. Damn budget still hasn't cleared >:o

I hear we can also use a ford TPS. Any truth to this?

With the Microtech you can pretty much use any 0 - 5v TPS. THis includes the GM, and FD units and most other full range.

every tps is 0-5v so you should be able to use anything, as long as it goes the correct direction (0-5v or 5-0v)

Hell, you can even use an on/off switch if you want...

i'm not sure how the microtech works but the haltech only uses the tps for the acceleration enrichment, so the s4 stock tps works great, or you can map it a little rich and not use it at all

Crusader_9x 01-12-04 04:43 PM

the microtech only uses it to switch between idle and load maps.

so in reality I could use anything I want as long as it changes value above idle right? time to go junkyard hunting :D

Accel pump enrichment is optional?
If it's not used, how does the ECU cope with the transition?
MAP sensor transient?

You can use either TPS or MAP sensor. I have mine pump1 and pump2 setup to use the MAP sensor as they are from the factory.

no it is not optional, you have the choice to either use map or tps for the enrichment, most cars will work fine with map but a few will need to be run in tps to get a nice transition.

Interesting - you could almost eliminate the TPS sensor, which would be nice for Zenki/S4 FC's...

In Matrix mode I am pretty sure you could run without the TPS because it as far as I can tell doesn't swap between idle and loadmaps it just goes of the RPM the car is running at even though the 500rpm map is called Idle.

you could if you wanted to, the ecu will throw a error but will not affect how it drives,

i have a s4 motor in my car and i just use the stock tps, it works fine, i usually run my car in normal mode so it needs the tps to switch between maps
