Microtech start-up dramas

I just finished installing a second hand LT12S with X6 igniter. The car is a 20B Cosmo with extend port engine, T04E single, standard injectors.

The Microtech is reading TPS, Air, Water, CAS and Volts correctly but is failing to fire. One thing that I noticed is that the Microtech is not reading any vacuum load during cranking. I have a separate boost gauge which is reading vacuum during cranking. Further to this, I have blown down the Microtech's vacuum line and it reads the pressure change.

Further to this, I also boosted the 12V signal to the Microtech using a relay as before it would re-start and not read the CAS signal. Any suggestions?

Here is my log file.

then you could simply have low cranking compression, even on a good sealing engine there is only a 1-2"Hg change in vacuum while cranking and that depends where you have the line ported to.

it should still be attempting to fire even without a vacuum signal at all, but obviously will not really idle well without it.

basic principles: check the plugs for fuel wetness, check the plugs and wires for spark and check the cranking compression of the engine.

Have you tried the test mode?...

berty 02-04-12 10:19 PM

I'm going to give test mode a shot tomorrow.

HOWEVER I was wondering though if I might need it to be re-flashed as I bought it second hand and it was off a very highly modified 20B drag car (running 12 injectors). I asked around to see if there was a way to reset the ECU to defaults without needing to send it off but haven't had a reply. What I would really like to do is somehow set it back to the way it would have been originally - even if I have to do this manually.

Does anyone have an idea what the base settings might be?

rxspeed7 02-04-12 10:29 PM

So it still has the map from the race car on it?

Can you take a screen cap of each screen and post it up. What size inj are you using? What's your setup include?

Will do. :icon_tup:

Still haven't done the test mode because I am waiting for the battery to charge. Here are the screens though;

One thing that I forgot to grab where the pump settings - any recommendations on what they should be?

rxspeed7 02-05-12 07:46 PM

Thanks what's your setup include... Inj size, turbo, porting, etc... Have you gotten it to start yet? What problems do you encounter, have you verified that wiring is correct?

rxspeed7 02-05-12 07:54 PM

Another thing you can do to test spark and fuel out out is plug another Cas into the harness and spin it over my hand and check for spark and injection

berty 02-05-12 08:23 PM

At the moment it is an extend port 20B with a T04e (big version). Injectors are the standard ones at the moment, (550cc) but I have ID1000s which I can put in.

Even with the single turbo setup, it was starting fine with the stock ECU. I haven't changed any hardware since installing the Microtech.

rxspeed7 02-05-12 08:29 PM

Have you checked all your wiring? Maybe point to point with a ohmmeter. And then of course checking for proper wire orientation. What vehicle is this in

I have double checked the wiring for everything and it seems fine, both visually and with a multimeter. It is all installed in a JC Cosmo.

Just waiting for the battery to charge so I can put it into test mode.

rxspeed7 02-05-12 09:11 PM

Have you tried cranking it? It should at least make an attempt to start.

I prefer to use a extra Cas to test everything, I've had some issues with test mode.

berty 02-05-12 09:26 PM

No signs of life during cranking. :(

My injectors are working in test mode, I can hear them clicking away and I know that the coils are firing because they blew a small 10 amp fuse during the first cranking. (I had to do this as I don't have anyone helping me so I thought this might have been a good way to go)

I am wondering about the fuel pump settings now. When I do crank, the plugs aren't wet. I can hear the fuel pump switch on, but I am wondering if because the car has been off for so long, whether the fuel pressure is too low.

Do you have any recommended settings for the fuel pump setup on the micro? I don't have a pressure gauge with the factory rails installed.

Oh and I don't have a spare CAS unfortunately.

rxspeed7 02-05-12 09:43 PM

Ok and nothing else has been changed to the engine besides the Microtech? Have you tried re-stabbing the Cas. Maybe the computer is configured for a couple teeth off.

Make sure the timtrim is 0 on screen 30.
And check to see what the static timing is.

Will do

Is there any visual guide to re-stabbing the CAS? I am hesitant to try it without some guidance.

rxspeed7 02-05-12 10:11 PM

Something you may wanna check is install a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel line and make sure the pump isn't shutting off during cranking. Or what I could do is Hotwire the pump so it's on with the key. Either your pump is not coming on and building pressure or your timing is off. That's the two things that come to mind immediately. I take it you did retire the fuel pump when you installed the Microtech.

TimTrm is set to 0

Still no signs of life...

I just wired the fuel pump direct to the battery. I can hear fuel running through the system.

When I crank, I am getting the amber light, however there is no start.

what is odd though, is that when I remove the plugs, they are dry. They smell like fuel, but I am pretty sure that this is normal.

rxspeed7 02-05-12 11:08 PM

Have you verified fuel pressure and there's fuel in the rails? Your running stock ignition right? Is the Microtech set up for the x6 box? Could be since it came off a race car. Pull a spark plug wire off and verify you have spark to all 6 wires( have someone crank for you while watching plug that is inserted in wire and grounded to the block)

I can hear the fuel running through the rail - its very loud actually when it is wired directly to the battery.

Its running the X6 and coils that came with it. I'll pull the wires tonight when someone is home to give me a hand.

Thanks for the help so far!
