microtech scares me...
i am buying rookie84's 89 TII this weekend and it has a microtech LT8... i know nothing about microtech. my 91 TII had a haltech e6k and i liked it alot. i downloaded a map from BDC and used the timing off that and tuned my own fuel settings via the wideband o2 readings and its been running great for about 4 months.
now what i'm scared about... rookie84's car supposed has a bad microtech box. it wont allow you to change any parameters. its all wired up correctly (every single wire chased down and verified) so basically, it has been concluded that the microtech unit is bad. so SINCE THE CAR WILL NOT START BECAUSE IT IS WAYY TO RICH CRANKING, what i was wanting to do is just get a new LT8 unit, plug it in, remove some cranking fuel, and drive the car home when i go to pick it up this weekend... I'm sure this doesnt sound like a bad plan to you, but what scares me is i've never used a microtech before. if i could go up there and plug in a haltech, i'd be off in a matter of minutes, but i have never used the microtech and i'm not really sure what i'm getting into with it. is the software hard to use? is it easy to just add/subtract fuel like it is in the e6k software? help me out guys, i'm scared. i dont have time to do a haltech install on the spot when i go to pick up the car :) will i be totally lost when i get into the software? i downloaded it, but it seems you cant really access any of the menus without being connected to the unit... help me out here guys! :) |
I have never used the haltech software so i really cant say one way or the other. Once you get into the software i think its pretty easy to navigate and do what you want. If you figured out/know your way around the haltech then figuring out a microtech shouldnt be to hard. Download the manual and read through it a few times.

microtech is real easy, but more importantly, if you get a new one, it will have a basic map that lets you run the car without changing anything at all
its a really rich map, so you shouldnt have to worry about hurting anything, but stay off the boost anyway. pat |
