Microtech install on N/A
Well, I've got plans for my N/A car. I am going to install a Microtech during the end of next week. To make this simple and short....
My current motor has stock ports. I've completed the TB mod, port matched the intake runners, other than that the internals are BONE STOCK with about 95k miles. i have the obvious upgrades: Header, no cat, borla cat-back and simple conical filter/custom CAI. I'm also running a stock 86' ECU. When/after the microtech gets installed, what kind of benifits am i going to have, what am i going to like, or dislike. I would like to hear from some of you that have had a microtech unit installed on your car, i wanna hear what type of response/drawbacks did you notice? And the last question i have, With a microtech, what kind of HP increase am i going to see, remember (STOCK PORTS) Thank you, -Markus Reschny www.mazsport.net |
Well I would think that a gain around the order of 20-30whp may be what you get. This would come from the removal of the AFM and proper tunning on a dyno to correct fuel/air mixtures. I quoted those numbers because people have gotten 15-25hp from tunning an S-AFC, given a microtech has more capacity for tunning you should be able to extract atleast that much power if not more. Good luck with the install Markus.

Silver88GXL Is a member that I could think off that has done It on his NA. I'd PM him to get his Impressions on the LT8 and how It worked out for him. His homepage Is here. Good for the meantime. http://homepage.mac.com/carldavis

Thank you kind sir,

when fitting to a NA motor i highly reccomend you fit a full thorw tps like a GM one so you can tune on throttle position as well, it makes tuning NA cars so much simpler and you can get a nicer tune on it.

So there are only 6 points for vacuum in which to tune with. i have been told there is a non turbo specific computer that is going to be release, but that is about as much a rumor as elvis and tupac living together in miami. Overall, it was well worth the install. Gas mileage went up with the tuning, my car passed emissions (with the oem computer, 174hc and 174 allowed), and the overall hp and torque curves are better. Throttle responce is 100 times better. If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM and I can help the best I can. |

Dale BTW- I put an 89 TPS on the car and the on/off transitions are much smoother. Kinda jerky before, not as much now. Plus cruising and all the other stuff seems smoother. Carl |
