Microtech f*cked up??

I finally broke down and bought the microtech 4 line hand controller to view my lt10s data. I go to plug it in, and a bunch of japanese or chinese letters come up all scattered about... What is going on with my microtech? Anyone have a fix to this issue?

Can you communicate with the unit via a PC?

Was the hand controller used?

the greek stuff is usually RFI affecting the comms cable
this bug is uber common
unplug it and plug it back in again is usually enough to get the screen back to normal

if that doesnt fix it,, you may need a better shielded comms cable and maybe some better resistive style ignition leads

I drove down to atkins rotary and bought the 4 line brand new... I have tried re plugging it in multiple times, diff cords the whole bit. Im gonna drive back to atkins and have them check it on one of their rotary applications cause they said they have a plane with a hand controller on board so they could plug it in to test it. Well my lt10s will not connect to any pc i own. I opened up one of dongles and it seems it shorted. One line of connection seemed gooey or something. So i followed it and soldered in wireds to where it connected to make a for sure jump and tested the dongle, nothing happened. So I gave up on the pc, or atleast mine anyways. Ill try other cables and change battery leads if posible, thanks for the help in assuring me that it is common. If all else fals, ill send everything to aus to get it tested...

i've only seen it happen once so i wouldn't say it is that common of an issue but it did work itself out on it's own on the customer's car that i worked on when the issue arose.

make sure the battery is fully charged and try disconnecting the battery for a bit to fully de-energize the microtech and reconnect it. just try various things to reset the ECU to try and get a good connection reference. i would also try to work out the laptop issue, the issue i had went away after i got it connected to my laptop and reconnected the hand controller.
