LTX-8 using MSD Coils

The difference between the lt and the ltx series is that the ltx has ignitors, where as the lt uses the factory ignitors. Correct? Asuming this is correct, the factory trailing coils could be used with the ltx as long as you wire them in w/out the factory ignitors. You do however need two coils to replace the leading coil, because the ignitors are built into that coil. So you can order the bosch coils x4 and wire it up that way, or just order 2 and have your stock trailing coils right? Assuming this is all correct, then could u use the msd blaster coil x2 for your leading, and use the stock trailing coils? http://devils.eng.fsu.edu/~bmatt/mtech/orderpage.html
Does anyone know how to wire up the factory trailing coils with the ltx8? Please let me know if I am on the right track here.

i have had no luck with MSD coils at all, you need a coils with the primary resistance of .5ohm most msd coils are .2hom which is no good and will blow the igniters,

chris_stampe 06-23-04 03:22 PM

Oh shit, I already ordered them. Can't you simply wire in a 3 ohm resistor? Or have you already tried?

chris_stampe 06-23-04 03:59 PM

I talked to the guys at Microtech and they said the MSD coils would work fine. They said that using a different coil w/ the stock ignitor would blow it, but that since the ltx8 comes with built-in ignitors that they will work fine.

which blaster coils did you get??

if they have .2ohm resistance you WILL burn out the internal igniters,

chris_stampe 06-24-04 08:48 AM

i got the new blaster ss....the ones w/ the link. Ill test the resistance

chris_stampe 06-25-04 01:59 AM

How do I test the resistance? Just between the + and - therminals? If they are only .2 ohms, cant you just wire in a .3 ohm resistor (or 3 0.1ohm resistors)??

yes just accros the terminals, \

i dont think you can put a resister in there, it wont have the same effect

Really? So is there no way to use them?

chris_stampe 06-26-04 03:56 PM

Ok the resistance on my stock coils is .8 ohms and the resistance on the msd blaster ss's is .7 ohms, not .2. We must have different msd coils or something. Ill post wether or not it works.

chris_stampe 06-26-04 09:19 PM

The blaster ss coils worked perfectly.

10sec rx7 06-27-04 02:11 AM

they may work fine for now, did you measure the resistance??? if they are .2 like all the other MSD blaster coils i have seen you will blow your ecu up.

chris_stampe 06-27-04 02:13 PM

nope they are .7 I dont know why they are different. btw i measure the stock coils and they are .8 It should work fine, but I am having a problem with tuning my microtech, would you(10secrx7) be available to give me some advice? Ill pm you w/ the details.
