LT-8 Questions (wiring and some others)

I'm putting a 13BT engine, tranny, custom driveshaft to make to my stock GXL rear end into my 1986 RX-7 GXL this summer. My plans are to run, rebuilt street ported S4 13BT engine, thinking about a hybrid turbo, and the Microtech LT-8. Ok, my questions are:

1. I have a series 4, n/a wiring harness. Reading the manual, I got the impression most EFI injector connectors are universal (the e6k ones are I believe). So I can cut and use the connectors from my n/a harness to the to mate the lt-8 to my TII injectors right?

2. With the CAS, can I do the same, use my n/a connector to mate the lt-8 to the TII CAS. The coils, I'm using my n/a ones since they are the same as TII coils so that won't be a problem.

3. Same for the TPS? And if I decide to get a s5 13BT, the lt-8 only needs to go to one TPS right, so that wont affect anything?

Lastly, you need to specify if your going to run stock sensors, or say GM when you by the Microtech b/c its programmed by Microtech for your setup. I'm sure on this, but just want to make sure, if you get some 1600 secondary injectors say, thats just a matter of tuning, you wouldnt need to do anything with getting it reprogrammed, or say a different turbo. Those are all just a matter of more fuel or more air flow and are just going to require adjustments made to the Microtech through "re-tuning" basically, correct?

Also, the lap top adapter. Now thats just not a $100 dollar serial cable is it? Or is that for the software too (then it doesn't come with the lt-8 by itself)?

Thanks for the help ahead of time!!! No7Yet is always helpful from what I've seen as well as black13B ( I believe thats his name) and other Microtech guys.

A friend and I split 8 new injector connectors from summitracing, ~$16, http://store.summitracing.com/partde...rt=MSD%2D2400. I didn't want to use the 16 yr old ones that were all crusty and brittle.

Thanks for the info!

yes the microtech will use all your standard sensors or the GM if you wish, you tell us what you want when you order the system and it will be configured to suit,

use new injector connectors, they are worth the $20 they cost, for s4 injectors you will have to trim the alignment lug on the bottom of the injector for most plugs to go on it,

injectors are just a matter or setting the staging and re tuning, very simple process, no need to send it back to microtech for that one,

any tps can be used, dosent have to be a mazda one, can even use a switch if you wish (as i will be doing on my new throttle body setup) the only sensors that matter and are factory set are the CAS, water and air temp, personally i would use a GM air temp sensor as they are easier to find if the mazda one dies.

Yes, but you'd be better off to use new ones. :) See above.

Yup.

The S5 has two TPSes. The stock diagram instructs you to use the narrow-range. I've got a tidbit on how to wire up the full-range TPS on our website.

The stock/GM sensors thing has to do with the air temp and water temp sensors. In the case of fuel injectors, that's going to change fuel injection rate, and thus will require a corrective change in the fuel mapping. Commonly referred to as "retuning". ;)

Also, the lap top adapter. Now thats just not a $100 dollar serial cable is it? Or is that for the software too (then it doesn't come with the lt-8 by itself)?

Nope. It consists of a dongle which has an EEPROM in it which stores four ECU maps in it, the cable, and a CD with the software on it.

Thanks alot you guys! Thats some quick response time too! Using new sensors sounds like it'd be worth it to me, I looked on group buy BR7 site, and the new one you had a thread about. How much is it for new GM sensors say?

Also, just another clarification. The LT-8 comes with an internal 2 bar map sensor, but theres an option for a external 3 bar map sensor correct? 2 bar is ruffly 20psi + or - a few psi right? If you wanted to upgrade to a 3bar after you purchased that would require sending it in correct?

And are there plans for another group buy yet? If so, when? Thanks again!

to be clear on this, you only need tps, cas, water temp, air temp sensors? so 4 sensors all together? how much would they all cost?? and why does MT have to program ECU for these 4 sensors? ive already ordered my MT so i guess it would be too late to change it to GM sensors. i thought i would have to buy more than 4.

the resistance of the mazda sensors is different to the GM sensors, the resistance values are set in the ecu,
GM water and air temp sensors are about $40au each with a connector, your ecu can be changed to run the GM temp sensors if you wish,
TPS are not a issue, change away to your hearts content as 95% are 0-5v trim pots or a switch.

the CAS on most cars is different, most are reluctor pickups but the number of teeth very, this is all factory set so you dont have to worry about it, reduces setup time to next to nothing, just wire it up and go driving.

Good you posted a link that works.:) Are these compatible with s5 TII Injectors? If so, I'm placing my order on your conformation.

TonyTurboII 07-13-03 12:20 AM

S5 injectors use round clips. I havent found them anywhere, so I used the old ones. They were in pretty good condition anyway.

Any luck on finding s5 connectors? Jimmy, I'll take 2 of the s4 connectors If you still have them kicking around. I'm going to need the 2 for my 1680cc secondaries.

Word 'round the campfire is that Toyota uses and sells them. See if you can't sight some MkIV Supra injectors, as those are reported to be the same.
