Kabooski (Tuning thread ?) Where is it...

What happened to the Tuning thread put up by Kabooski ?

There was some good info in there which would be applicable to lots of users and it got pulled, what is going on ?

Feel free to repost your experience here again so others can benifit from your misfortune.

yah im with rice on this one there was alot of good tuning advice like basic safe timing and what not.

Anyway Rice i was wondering if you could elaborate on your water injection sysytem that you were talking about in the midding thread. Give us a how to or parts list or anythiing. Seeing as i am very interested in putting a water injection system in my car.

kabooski 02-29-04 07:01 PM

sorry folks...I had it deleted for "local" reasons

The biggest Thing I have learned
I will have to eat crow for this one......Even tho I have been the no.1 defender of Microtech on this forum and any forum I can find....I have learn that Microtech is just a ordinary EMS

I sold my 4 month old Haltech E6K thinking the Microtech would be more reliable and I have learned it is really not the EMS but who Tunes it..that makes the diffrence

Since I have/had a hard time getting people to understand that I dont have a race car
(I have no plans to compete in the NHRA or NOPI etc)
but a street car!......I have sold off almost all my go fast parts

and will be using the stock S4 intake manifold..stock S5 intercooler.. and a S4 turbo/manifold with a T04B compressor upgrade..and smaller injectors

Old setup
___________
S5 lower intake
S6 (FD) Upper Intake and TB with a greddy Elbow
NPR Truck Large FMIC
2.5 Piping on the Hotside- 3" Pipe going into the TB
850cc prime
1680cc secondarys
Custom Fuel rails
Turbonetics T-66 Turbocharger
Long Tubuler Turbo Manifold
Turbonetics 42mm Wastegate
SX Fuel Regulator

I only have the Microtech from my old setup and the fuel pump

Peter, I just happened to copy one of your posts to dd to my ever growing collection of info on tuning :D

Do not rely on ANY single wire POS to give you an accurate reading.

Pump gas AFR at WOT on your 93 (our 98) need to pegged around 10.2 to 10.5 region if you want it to live @ high power levels, Timing NO MORE THAN 12 deg advance with around 7.5 deg split works for me (mid/high load rpm), plugs of heat range 10 MINIMUM. I have run MANY engines @ 17+ psi and greater very safley on the above combination.

I run WATER INJECTION for extreme applications (20 to 23+psi on pump fuel !!!) with 12.2 to 13.7:1 AFR (again with similar timing).

I cant stress to you enough to get a proper wideband meter that can accuratley log your AFR across the board, if you have ANY mapping or sub system issues (i.e fuel pressure drop etc) that mean you deviate form the above "guide on tune" then this can cause a reduction in engine reliability I feel for you man I hope you get it all sorted.

Race gas is not necessary on any ECU that is maped right (majority I tune are microtech).

SAFE AFR is 10.5:1, timing 12 deg advance 7.5 deg split for 14 to 16psi on a T66 on pump. If you want some help with a proven Water Injection system drop me a PM and I can supply you with parts that are proven to work and make your rotary engine bullet proof at much higher boost than you are running now on T66.

And I was just wondering what the difference was between the Haltech and Microtech was, especially since Kabooski has a well known reputation to bash Haltech products on here. :)

I thought Evil Aviator was admin?
Or was it one of the higher ups that did this?
Hell, I don't think we'll ever find out!

yes i remember a few bashings given to the haltech, here and on the mailing list....

Ted, Kabooski already said in this thread that he requested it to be deleted. i didnt delete it.

I only edited the names out of the title of the original thread. Yes, it was the higher ups who deleted it, but it was by request of the author due to personal reasons, not by Nazi moderation.

Personally, I would have only edited the thread, as I have had several requests to "delete" or "remove" theads in the past, when only a simple edit was necessary. Unfortunately, the request to delete this thread was taken literally.

BTW, I am the moderator, not the admin. This means that I can move, edit, and delete threads within my scope, but I cannot touch threads in other subforums, nor can I modify user data like profiles, banning, etc. I do have contact with the higher ups, so do not take this to mean that I cannot get someone banned if necessary. ;)

If I remember correctly, he was a member of the Haltech Jihad when he had a Haltech. :)

One of the race shops in my area is convincing their clients to switch from the E6K to the LT8. I have no reason why, but it does generate income for the race shop. :)

kabooski 03-01-04 08:13 AM

Well the E6K is getting outdated now

hence E6X

I would still not use any Haltech product
I think there timming controll/senstivilty to RFI interference is a no no in my book

Like tuning, the install is just as important and dependant on the person doing the job also. Every ECU got it's own set of 'bells & whistles' but it's up to the installer's experience to work around them and get the job done properly.

rolotec 03-13-04 07:22 PM

first thing i should said is that you need to understand how a motor work in order to talk about tunning,if the fuel system is not properly built,if your a cheap guy, that use cheap stuff for save some money instead of doing the right things, and also as a driver ,abuse, overevved or missed a lot of gears how can you talk about how good a computer is again the other, i think there,s a lot of factors involved, but definetly i could about microtech and haltech cause i tune both computer,s,but i don,t think someone that doesn,t know anything just living in the forum,s is the right person to hear, his profesion has nothing to do with street or race cars, bye Rolo.

Crusader_9x 03-15-04 03:50 PM

so rice racing where is that water injection setup write up you said you would provide?

RICE RACING 03-16-04 08:46 PM

Pistons & Rotaries are not tuned the same least not by people who want them to not detonate
:D

What I and others have stated for pump gas works, try tuning it like what a piston motor can take (like a 2JZ I did not long ago 19psi on pump gas 460rwhp @ 13.4:1 AFR) and you will be walking home ;)

kabooski 03-16-04 09:56 PM

Eh I'm not worried any more
Im at peace and happy again
(especially now that the car is almost ready to be painted)

I've been in Rotaries since I was 16
Been there done that..So I'm not giving up yet on rotaries
even tho the apex seals, side seals etc
had only 3000 miles or less
I just went today and bought everything new again
I will be pinning the motor and doing a Oil Lubrication Modification that bypasses the Dowl Pin oil passeges
and instead flows external from the front of the side housing to the rear one
there by running cooler oil and no oil pressure build up around the Pins

I will be doing some wise investments also
instead of Big Turbo's etc
I'm getting a wideband with datalogging
Like the new upcoming PLex that will blow anything away (wireless!) :D

A water injection kit
a Knock sensor alert system
upgrade my suspension
maybe get into dare I say it? Road Racing :D
