Issues with trailing cant figure it out?
I have a LT8 in a S5 rx7 and just got the car running not to long ago......The car is not firing on trailing 2 ive went through the wire diagram several time swapped wires,spark plags and coils....I just cant figure out why it wont fire.The car starts on ,and idles fine and leading is ok and trailing 1 is even firing but trailing 2 isnt? if anybody has any input please fill me in im stomped :scratch: Both the trailing coils are showing power when on the ON postion

How are you determining it is not firing? If using a timing light, you need to actually check for spark as a timing light won't be reliable.
Have you swapped the trailing ignitor, or just the coils? Are you absolutely sure that the trailing is wired correctly? Is the plug in good condition? If all else fails, put an oscilloscope on the trailing trigger and toggle wires to confirm there is actually a signal. If there is, then the problem lies outside the Microtech. |

A scope is an instrument that allows you to view electrical waveforms. You would connect it to each wire and run the car, checking that the Microtech is outputting a square wave to trigger the coils (actually the coils are held high and then brought low to fire).

ok, im getting signal all the way to harness that plugs into the coils! So i also checked for continuity on the trailing 2 wire so everything in that part is ok. The spark plug is brand new as well as the spark plug wire so my problems lies with the coil or the ignitor...any advice ?oh and the coil has power and ground but still no fire while the car is turned on!

You can try to test fire the coil on the bench. Get the coil/ignitor assembly and put it on the bench with a 12V battery nearby. Connect the tan wires to 12V, and ground the ignitor base. Now pop open the FSM and find out which wire on the 4 pin connector is trigger. Get two AA batteries and put them in series. Connect the negative to the ignitor base. Now tap the + to the trigger wire and watch for spark on T1. Now tap it to the toggle/select wire (see FSM) and then tap it again to the trigger. You should get spark on T2.
