ignition problem question

I know is not rotary related but a friend of mine's 2jz vvti swaped 89 supra is having problem with his lt16. Is reading higher rpm that what the motor is turning. Like the ecu is reading 3khigher when the engine is only turning 800. We swapped the crank sensot and didnt fix the problem. Check all the wires and still the same. Can anybody help please. Thanks
Eddie

the ignition setup is incorrect then, be sure it is set for a 6 cylinder and not a 4 banger or 2 rotor.

The computer is set for 6 cilinders. All i can think is that the ecu is not setup right at microtech because i called around to check if the sensors are different thru out the years and they are not . I rev it up a lil and the ecu reads like 6-7k the when i know is not that high.

is this reading coming from the tach or the ECU itself?

is it reading that high ?? or is it glitching ??? what about the crank sensor cable ?? did you modified cut it and splice it ??

How about checking the rpm with a known good gage
( meter)
