How is timing accuracy achieved?

After taking a loot at the software I noticed theres a "guage" for timing. Is it accurate? and the guage runs from 0 to 40 degrees. Well, Im assuming thats BTDC, but rotaries use ATDC (Sometimes 20 degrees). Does the guage peg out or can it be scaled to accomodate rotary?

Also, how accurate is Microtech at timing? What % or to within what degree?

The only ATDC firing that rotaries do is the trailing split, which is referenced from the leading spark, and can be adjusted up to 15 degrees.
