ecu help please

I have a quick question. I have a project car with a cosmo 13-re twin turbo rotary. The wiring harness and stock ecu are included but with no wiring support anywhere, so i can't get the engine to run. I was told the microtech lt10s ecu will solve my issue (just have to wire and set it up), but the apexi power fc is about the same price and I know many ppl really like the tune-ablility of the apexi unit. So my question is, will the powerfc apexi unit work on my cosmo 13b or should i stick with getting a microtech? btw, i have a MAF not a map, i could buy a map, but just letting everyone know. Need help thanks!

the mtech runs an internal MAP,, and the MAF is entirely unnecessary
PFC,, while having better support than the micro in countries outside of australia
doesnt actually do anything better than a micro,, and maybe some things worse
ie,, its stuck with a wastespark leading trigger
( while the micro is fully sequential ignition and a bit more user adjustable for dwell and coil settings )

however neither of these ECU's is anything like cutting edge anymore,, and are rather obsolete in some area's
IE the PFC with limited coil options and ignition settings
and the micro is lacking closed loop lambda operation and genuine PC downloads
( and many of its other sundry functions are rather basic )

for not much more money the higher optioned haltechs will do things much better ,, with much scope for add ons,, all with much user adjustable flexibility

you want the best load definition and fidelity
end user adjust-ability for the ignition settings and for the aux-out setup
closed loop lambda running
closed loop boost control
closed loop idle
stepper motor control for the OMP
and excellent documentation and user support , and forum support
( ie a forum that works )

not much or all of this is avail in the PFC and micro options

but you do get all this and more with platinum haltech ,, and also with some of the other alternative brands like AEMS, EMS and adaptronic
-- all without the price tag of the motec or autronic

i seriously think you should investigate exactly what your current and future needs will be
then investigate the features and abilities and the handicaps and costs of the systems mentioned,, and also find a suitable tuner for your selection

$$ for $$ , ability for disability
the micro and PFC arent even on the same lap as the haltech

Okay, all that info is really helpful. On the haltech, am I going to be able to just plug in my cosmo wire harness and start it? or is it come like the microtech with a blank harness and i wire it? I just want to start the car and have it run. I want to be able to adjust some settings but i'd rather not spend more money on an ecu than i spent on the engine itself and find out it may not work. i'm kinda in a situation. thanks! ill look into the haltchs today and see what they are all about. thanks again!

The Haltech harness will be a flying lead harness like the Microtech, so it will need to be wired up to your engine.

No EMS is going to plug into the Cosmo engine harness. If you want plug and play, then you need to reinstall the harness for the RX7.

For example we have a 91 Vert with a 93 Cosmo 13b-re, we used the S5 TII engine harness (N/A can be used) and run the 93 FD Power FC with our adapter harness.

S4 and S5 adapters http://banzai-racing.com/store/86-91..._products.html

Nearly all EMS's will replace the MAF with a map sensor.

hmm. thanks, i didn't know the rx7 harness would plug in like that. very cool project there :). I have yet to hear from microtech, the tech guys on microtech told me they have a setup for the cosmo, and i asked what one is it and no reply yet. Hopefully a reply soon so that I know what I need to do. Because looking up the schematics of the wiring, some of the rotary wiring diagrams from microtech feature 4 coils and other parts i don't have. My engine came with a 3 coil pack with wires that do not match up to the color scheme of an rx7 :(, a MAF which i now found is obsolete, and an igniter with only 2 wires that does not match the rx7. So, hopefully they get back to me soon so I know what to do :/

I didn't think trying to start a rotary with fuel injection would be this hard... My father said back in his day, the rotars came with distributers and carbs that he was playing with, but he said the fuel injection should have more hp etc. So, maybe we should have gone with a holley and a distributer... hahaha. Having the engine sit there with everyone wondering if the engine has any life left in it is hard to bear. I am at the point now, where the things required to get the engine started cost more than what i apid for the engine. sad :(

You'll probably never hear from Microtech. Try a dealer. Then again, I'd suggest a Haltech instead.

It may look intimidating at first, but wiring up a Microtech/Haltech to a 13B isn't really that hard. Use 2nd gen coils, and you don't need the AFM with a standalone.

The Cosmo RE isn't much different then a 2nd gen 13B. Injector connections, CAS, water and air temp sensors are the same. The only difference is the pinout of the TPS but that is a minor problem.

Carbs and dizzys suck, period. :) It will almost always cost more to get an engine running then what you paid for it.

Alright. thanks for all the help :) I will end up buying a microtech lt10s with the x4 box and ill also buy some coils. Now i just need to save up more money. Money sucks, period. haha. Once done, my project car should be a rocket at under 2000 pounds. The 13b pumps out close to 240 horse which is over 4 times stock horse of the stock motor in my car :p hahah. To think the old engine was peppy is an understatement now that the rotary is in there. can't wait to drive it!
