cold start crank map help

what map does the microtech use to actually crank the car over untill it starts.

does it run in the crank map untill the engine kicks over??
im having a hell of a hard time starting my car.. hot start is fine, idles fine, its just the cold start.. you have to pump the pedal hard and alot of black smoke comes out of the exhaust.. and it looks like unburnt fuel

does the microtech read off the crank map only or the water map aswell when first cranking over i just cant seem to get it perfect..

ive messed with the crank and water maps and they really dont seemed to have helped at all..

can anyone offer some advice..

If I'm not mistaken, the crank map is adding that percentage to the main load map for as long as the engine is cranking. Then as soon as it starts, the water temp map takes over as the enrichment source, adding again to the main load map.

That crank map looks VERY rich in my experience. Most start happily with half that much enrichment.

Also make sure to check the ASE setting. It's pretty crude compared to other ECUs but it enriches the mixture for a few seconds after starting. It is often set too high. Sadly the Microtech only offers a fixed ASE percentage applied to all conditions, instead of a variable based on temperature and other parameters like all other ECUs.

thanks for the info mate.

so the af_ste is something perhaps i should look at aswell.

ill try and pull the crank map down and see if that helps starting firstly..

i hate this friggen microtech..
ive pulled fuel out of the crank map.
didnt help actually seemed to stuggle more..
so i added a few percent didnt really help

can a microtech start a car up like stock?? im about to throw this ecu in the bin and start all over !! microtech support is useless aswell

when i was cranking it registered a RPM error, then it went away.. does anyone know what that means?? could this be a problem..

If you are losing RPM then you have a problem. The ECU should show the current RPM as well as "CRANK". That will certainly prevent the car from starting. Check your ignition pickups.

No, the Microtech can't make a car start like stock. Mainly because of the crude afterstart enrichments, crude starting fuel settings and lack of the BAC valve. But you can make the vehicle start reliably, eventually. Of course you can't do this until the main fuel table is set up as all starting corrections rely on the main table.
