cold engine wont start.

ive been doing some work on my car the last month and started it up about a week ago. it ran really rough due to not being tuned, but i just wanted to get it going. now when i crank it over, it wont do anything. just cranks.

i checked the for spark and it seemed to be fine. i even put in new plugs. it should be getting enough gas, but im not sure how to make sure of that. i need to get this car running asap. my SA has a starter issue that i have to deal :(

If its running rough its probably running very rich. And it keeps flooding the motor.
Before you put the new plugs in did you unflood the engine?

Also is the engine new? Have you done any k's in it?

dean23 Jan 5, 2008 06:08 PM

deflooded it before. i thought it might be rich also, but leaning it out didnt help much. engine has 3k on rebuild and streetport.

Looks like we have to go back to basics?
Checked for spark on the LEADING Leads(bottom to leads)?
Then check for an orange light flashing on microtech while cranking?

dean23 Jan 6, 2008 12:26 PM

done and done. ive gone through the basics and still nothing. today im going to lean out the crank map and work up from there. hopefully ill get some progres that way. anything else i should check while im working through the maps?

Your car has two distinct sounds about it.
It sounds like it has no comp.

It also sounds like the spark plugs are dead.

Do a comp test, then put new spark plugs in it and see what it does.(dont clean the old ones.)

Spray some starting fuel in the TB, works evertime for me.

Thanks for the help but... !!!! What's a comp test ? :shocking:

rx72c Jan 19, 2008 04:15 AM

Do a compression test to see if the engine still is sealing correctly.
The tool you use is a compression tester.

MuRCieLaGo Mar 5, 2008 11:01 PM

I did a comp test but it won't start so it's not really good... I changed the spark plug too and it still doesn't work. Maybe if I change oil?

rx72c Mar 6, 2008 01:14 AM

You did comp test
What were the numbers?

myfc3s Mar 6, 2008 09:59 AM

Double check your CAS wiring. I had the same problem 3years ago when first installed, its been great sense.. Also you need a better Lead and ground for it to work best.

MuRCieLaGo Mar 6, 2008 10:19 AM

rx72c it was half the number it should be !

myfc3s what's the "CAS wiring" ?

rx72c Mar 6, 2008 03:26 PM

If your compression is half the number it should be why are you still trying to start it?

Take it out. ANd have it rebuilt.
Trying to start a low comp engine can be almost impossible.

Yes but I'm in Quebec and I did a comp test while it was -10 outside and with a low battery...

myfc3s Mar 7, 2008 08:17 PM

CAS "Crank angle sensor"

MuRCieLaGo Mar 10, 2008 12:55 AM

Can't it be the gas pump ??? I had the same problem yesterday with my Oldsmobile Alero it did the same thing and it was the gas pump...

rx72c Mar 10, 2008 02:14 AM

If it was the gas pump or fuel pump(same thing) it would not start at all.

Can you take a video of you trying to start it in the morning?

DId it ever start in the morning with the microtech or no?

MuRCieLaGo Mar 10, 2008 10:34 AM

This is the video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=MsyZwXkPR4I
Since I flooded the engine (in december), it never started again.

Thanks for your help!

rx72c Mar 10, 2008 08:58 PM

Your engine sounds like it has no compression. Its most likely got sticky seals.

Put some new plugs in it. And tow start it.get someone to tow you at 30-40mph and clutch it. and let him keep pulling you till its on and running on its own. And keep revving it till its warm and then try and let it idle.

Only way to free up a sticky engine.

MuRCieLaGo Mar 11, 2008 10:05 AM

Okay I'll try it THANKS A LOT !!! But can't I only move the car to a warm place ?

rx72c Mar 11, 2008 06:55 PM

Meh. I cant really help you other wise. Your engine is spinning with basically no comp pulses in it.
Thats why it wont start. Warm or cold.
