Can the LTX turn on my Supercharger?
Ok here goes guys. I have a series 4 turbo motor that I am going to use in most likely a first gen rx-7. I also have a BRAND NEW supercharger that came off of a mercedes c32 AMG model. This charger puts out about 14.5 psi, sometimes a little more. I was pondering the idea of someday installing this superchager onto my 13bt motor. This supercharger is made by IHI in Japan and is supposed to be top notch. Here's the question....
Reading about this supercharger it is not on all the time. It sounds like the Bosch ecu used in these Mercedes senses when you are accelerating and it sends some type of current which activates the "ectromagnetic coupling" that turns the supercharger on. I have read about some of you having the Microtech turn on an electric fan and I believe an intercooler spray dependent on engine load. Am I right? IF this is the case, could the Microtech LTX turn on this supercharger when I am accelerating? Heres a few paragraphs about the supercharger from a Mercedes article if your interested: Helical belt-driven supercharger for a high charge pressure A newly designed supercharger lies at the heart of the powerplant and ensures an unusually high air flow rate. This belt-driven charger is of the helical type with cast aluminium and Teflon-coated rotors. At maximum engine speed these achieve up to 20,700 rpm, forcing up to 1200 kilograms of air per hour into the cylinders of the AMG V6 engine. This innovative technology thus produces a significantly higher charge pressure than conventional belt-driven charging systems. To be specific, the supercharger in the Mercedes-AMG produces charge pressures of more than 1.0 bar that is up to 30 percent more than comparable systems. Intelligent, electromagnetic supercharger activation In the interests of the greatest possible efficiency the engineers designed the supercharger so that it would cut in via an electromagnetic coupling as a function of engine speed and load conditions. Jointly developed with specialists at the Japanese company IHI, the supercharger is not continuously driven. Under partial load conditions the 3.2-litre V6 operates purely as a naturally aspirated engine. The supercharger only goes into instant action when the driver wishes to accelerate. There are numerous advantages to this intelligent solution: thermal efficiency, fuel consumption and noise/exhaust emissions all benefit considerably. The load and engine-speed-dependent activation procedure is carried out by an electromag-netic coupling which obtains its control impulses directly from the newly developed, fully-electronic Bosch ME 2.8.1 engine management system. Naturally the driver feels and hears nothing of the supercharger activation: the build-up of torque is extremely smooth and the supercharged V6 shows its muscles very evenly, with a surge of power already on tap from just above idling speed. |
Yes.
The microtech will switch it on with rpm & load |
I'm away from the manual at the moment, but if there was a way to trigger it using the output from the TPS (using a full range instead of a narrow range ala S5), wouldn't it be nice to set it up to come on at say 60% throttle?

BTW Jon, can you recommend a shop that can tune my Microtech in California? thanks John |
