can i find a used microtech?

i'd like to purchase a used microtech unit from someone cause i'd like to save a bit of money. anyone around here want to sell theirs?

Turbo Timmy 01-12-03 04:42 PM

Keep checking thepartstrader i've seen them on there before. Direct from Aus. new they are only around $600 bucks and i've seen them listed over $1000 used so go figure.

rxtasy3 01-12-03 09:58 PM

U have a link to this? Cheapest I've found new is $1095 for the MT and MTX8.

Turbo Timmy 01-12-03 10:00 PM

That price is most likely in Australian Dollars which is around $625 US

hondah8er 01-14-03 01:03 PM

check out dysonrotary.com.au I beleive

Redwood 01-15-03 11:06 AM

I got mine from AUS for about $750 with the handset, the MT-8, and an extra dongle. They're pretty cheap relatively and I don't see a used one giving you that much of a break. Good luck.

jacobcartmill 01-16-03 07:02 PM

damn i'm only lookin to spend like 500-600.. and i want a good ems. why are people asking MORE for it than when it was new?

and timmy, which one do i want for my T2? mt? mtx? ?

Turbo Timmy 01-16-03 09:03 PM

MTX-8 or LTX-8 they are the same just L stands for Laptop.

Bridgeported 01-20-03 04:17 AM

I always thought the LTX-8 was about $900 usd. Geese, $600 usd is a great deal.

Bridgeported 01-20-03 04:22 AM

I just checked the Dyson Rotary site.
They have it listed for $990 AUD.
$990 AUD = $584 USD
wow!

10sec rx7 01-20-03 04:35 PM

That will be $990au for the ecu you will need 4 coils to run with the LTX they are $190au, if you use a LT8 you can use turbo II coils

Redwood 01-20-03 05:30 PM

Unless you're really serious about going all out, settle for the LT-8. As 10secrx-7 told me when I was deciding, "the stock coils are good run 10 second runs". And let's not kid ourselves, most of us aren't concerned with going that fast.

For what it's worth, I love my Microtech and recommend you all go get one. I'll be buying a second for my dune buggy/TII project.

Turbo Timmy 01-20-03 05:47 PM

Yah but using the bosch coils is a very clean install especially if you have a huge fmic pipe where the stock coil was.

10sec rx7 01-21-03 03:22 PM

Thats true, the bosch coils make for a very clean install, they will supply more spark than the standard coils.
ill get some updated pics of my engine bay tonight while the painter is there working away on the body, and show you how i mounted mine.

Just to clarify for the american/canadian readers...
You can get name brand (MSD, Bosch, Accel, etc) coils for $30-$37 a piece, so 4 x $35 = $140 for a 13B

$580 usd LTX-8 ems + $140 usd coils = $720 usd
Still a fabulous price!

10sec rx7 01-22-03 04:37 PM

just worked it out guys,

at full retail price of $1095 for ecu and $200 for coils a LTX8 would cost you $757.75us

at dysons prices , it would be 690.52us dollers plus about 20us for freight! so around $710inc freight and coils,

another option is to run a MSD dis4 and coils of your choice and then the ecu would cost you $579

But will the LTX still work with the hand held programmer? If so, it would be the better buy if planning to get a laptop later on for programming.

Turbo Timmy 01-23-03 07:44 AM

Yes you can also use the hand controller to display information while you are driving. Don't quote me on this but I think it's rpm, boost, water temps, that kind of stuff.

The LT series can be used with either the laptop or the handheld.

I have a used one I will be selling in another week or two (after I pull it from the car).
550 plus 100 for the completed wiring harness. 650 plus shipping total.

Email me at Jrbjag@yahoo.com if you're interested in it.

By the way, as of January 20th, the exchange rate has moved significantly in favor of the AUS dollar. Until the stock market shows some sigificant gains, I don't anticipate the change reversing itself.
Best,
John
