Bosch Coils - Ignition Breakup

1 Attachment(s)
Hi all.

Car made 394 rwhp @ 14psi without meth (we stopped because of ignition breakup)
1st gen rx7 GSL SE
LT10s w/X4 box bosch coils (4)
13B 4 port large streetport
60-1 Turbo Tial MVR 44mm w/g
Bosch 044 fuel pump
IDA Throttlebody setup 600cc primaries 1680cc secondaries

My tuner recommends I upgrade to AEM dummy coils and eliminate the bosch coils and X4 box.

Why would Microtech sell coils that would need to be upgraded in the future????

Anyone else had this issue?

Thanks alot

have you check your voltage make sure its not dropping i seen does coils handling more h.p

Lynch 10-10-15 08:48 PM

^^^^ No we haven't checked that but I will.

Thanks elturbonitroso

after checking voltage, check ground. make sure the coils are grounded to the engine and the engine grounded to the chassis properly.

Lynch 10-11-15 10:29 PM

Thanks The grounds are good at those points

how would you be able to get rid of the x4 box without sending the ecu back for reprogramimg? i have a lt10s and i am in need of a x4 box. but, if i can rewire it as you said i would like to know how.

rx72c 03-19-16 07:01 AM

If you use LS or AEM coils you can trigger them straight from the ECU without reprogramming.

thank you rx72c. I was looking at the AEM dummy coils to replace my current bosch coils.

bosozo9 04-05-16 06:21 PM

I got my LT10s to fire 4 (2 pairs) trailing coils with the attached ignitors and its running the best its ever been. my trigger menu is igbt trigger mode. I first confirmed with microtech and they stated that it can be done regardless of the trigger mode. they just didn't design it to be used that way. hence they do not have a wiring diagram for it

Lynch 04-07-16 07:48 PM

^^^^nice. What power are you putting out?

bosozo9 04-08-16 11:27 AM

i have this in my REPU. its the original 13b engine streetported with a dellorto sidedraft. as of now I only have the ignition running on the lt10s as I am currently making an adapter plate so I can run EFI. the adapter plate I am making has the primary injectors in it as the r5 center plates don't have injector holes.

My understanding is that you use the AEM Smart coils if you're NOT using the X4. If you are using the X4, than you just need the Mercury "dumb" coils. Chris Ludwig sells them and they're pretty reasonably priced.

Good luck!

Nick

EDIT: From dealing with Chris before, I'm 100% certain he would also help you to wire them properly. Give him a call or PM him.

Did you end up buying a set? If so, how are they working for you?
