base maps, for putzing or whomping?
 

I'm waiting for my microtech, and I do have a DIY-Wideband here, but I'm waiting to get a sensor. I do have a lead on one though.

Anyways, they asked us (whomever is setting the maps up) what our mods were for our base maps.

So are these maps capable of anything besides driving to get your car tuned, or are they going to have enough room in them so we can go to the strip? I figured it would be the latter; places like Superchips reprogram your ECU based on what you tell them, so they probably aren't as aggressive, but I assumed our base maps would be like this.

eh, I wouldn't suggest going to the strip on the base map.. mine seems to be running rich (plugs are dark) but i wouldn't trust it .. i've only given it really a 1st and some of 2nd for much load i don't trust it yet..

Don't trust the base map to run the car at the strip.
They are designed to get the car started & running & driveable well enough to take somewhere to be tuned properly.
It will be more than likely rich but it's best to be safe rather than sorry!!!!

That's kind of a shady thing to tell people about one's base maps if you can't drive the car the way it is supposed to be driven...

uhm.. every car is different... They can't give you the perfect map that runs the exact mods you have that's just to many factors. You should know when buying a complete new engine management that fine tuning will be in order. But I guess.. if you're daring like that... do it.. but if the motor pops don't blame it on any part of yoru car.

if it makes you feel better.. the base map that was slightly modified for my mods before i recieved it ran my car better than my stock ecu on stock car ever ran my TII...

I'm just asking because that is the impression I got, that it would be a GOOD map. Tuning takes time, and I'd like to have my microtech in and setup for Indy :)

well the base map that came on mine had to be leaned 20% due to my 4 720cc injectors.. that map ran my car 10x better than it ever ran before.. I ripped on it a little in 1st and 2nd (never more than 5psi) and it was good and really strong.. on the dyno it ran 11:1 or something like that.. but had ignition issues..that didn't allow us to do any tuning on the base map.

ahhh. So did you start over from scratch or build from the base map? There aren't any dynos around here, I'll be tuning mine purely with logging on the street...

Bl|nks base map is a stock microtech map which i reduced the %of fuel by 15% due to his larger injectors, if you have stock 550's and a stock turbo the standard base map will be fine for driving but i would still tune using a wide band,
Bl|nks car will a little tuning on the dyno will pick up a good amount of power when leaned off a little.

Hey Dale, do you have any experience with those DIY or premade kit wideband units?

The ones that use a 5v 7 wire honda WB O2 sensor. I'm curious to know if they are accurate at all...in the same manner as most A/F guages are rather inaccurate due to the amount of time that it takes for the O2 sensor to register changes.

Josepi, the OZ DIY Wideband is EXTREMELY accurate, it is on par with all of the other widebands out there, it just uses a wideband sensor that is widely available on 2001 and later honda vehicles. That sensor is EXTREMELY accurate, do a search on google for a whitepaper on it. you will be impressed with that O2 sensor's capabilities.
