It ate 5 ricers last night, still needs fine tuning

Welp, I got my LT8 on thursday, didnt get a chance to get started until saturday night. Saturday night I disassembled and removed everything necessary, fully terminated the harness. Sunday I woke up and dropped in my harness, double and triple checked everything, cranked, no start, crap. I forgot to reconnect the fuel pump connector after soldering and insulating it :D . So I calibrate my shit, and go out for a spin. WOW. This is absolutely awesome. cruised around town last night, looking for trouble, came across ricers hanging out at a gas station, had some rice for diner, and went home. Microtech OWNZ me.

The only problem I am having is the fine tuning, I know it should be done on a dyno, but I am having some trouble getting used to the software. I am mainly attempting to adjust the fuel mixture at idle. Any of you guys from Oz got any pointers for a newbie? Dale? Jon?

One of the main things is that the injectors settings are all in ms, not % duty cycle, which I am accustomed to. How do I convert the MS to % duty cycle? or is there a way to view the maps in % duty cycle?

Woo! got the idle adjusted, runs awesome, I neglected to adjust the idle mixture after doing the TPS CAL procedure.

for people who are doing their installs and for future reference.
1. After the car is started for the first time with the Microtech and warmed to normal operating temp and turned off, IMMEDIATELY CALIBRATE YOUR TPS via the FSM(www.fc3s.org
2. After the TPS is calibrated, follow the procedure for setting the TPS CAL in the microtech software, if it dies, just adjust your fuel mixture thereafter.

This is what I did, I believe it to be correct. If this is not the case then DALE or JON please correct me!

You can adjust your TPS before you even start the car,
this is what i do.

when i initially calibrated my TPS (before microtech) i did the resistance method. I don't believe you need to do this with the microtech. You just need to calibrate the microtech so it knows it's beginning value. Any time you fiddle with your idle say it idles at 1600 and you adjust it to 800 you should go back into the TPScal and redo it/make sure it's set right.

hey blink, what is the resistance method? I always used some LED's that I built.

resistance method i blieve, using a multimeter to get it set at 1v

I never did understand how those lights worked. I made one of those light things too, but never used it.

For a while, I was about to buy a Haltech, but now I'm really glad that I have an LT-8 sitting right here in my desk waiting for finals to end so I can install it. When I used to read the Haltech posts....it seems it took everybody weeks before they got theirs to run properly, and half the people never solved a lot of problems. Reading all these Microtech posts about installing in a parking lot, and everybody pretty much firing them up no problem, I'm really looking forward to putting this thing in. Just wish finals would end now:o:

Forget the standard mazda,LED type calibration.
Just set it up the way it says in the Microtech manual & you will be fine!
If you have any drama's you know where to find me.

Yeah, I didn't do the Mazda one and I know my TPS was off. I calibrated it in the Microtech software and it is right on.

Poindexter10thae 04-30-03 11:01 AM

Well, yesterday I calibrated the TPS to 1.0v, engine off, key on, reset the timing to TDC, now my car is really hooking up, Did quite a bit of tuning yesterday. My tuning was really limited to going off of the microtech A/F ratio readings, because I have yet to get ahold of a wideband or a dyno, I did road tuning and made sure that my A/F ratio was about 12.3 or higher through the entire RPM band/load points. Mainly running it a bit rich because I dont trust the standard 02 sensor at all(no one should!) I plan on going with the OZ DIY wideband, but I do have a friend in town that has a wideband that I believe he will rent out to me(FJO wideband i think? I cant remember the name, but it has a F in it and is a 3 letter abreviation)

Piranha 04-30-03 11:09 AM

Yeah, be careful with that. I've read people looking at their stock O2 when they had a wideband on the Dyno, and the stock O2 said full rich, while the wideband was saying lean

Poindexter10thae 04-30-03 12:29 PM

Yeah, I pretty much ran it rich through the RPM band. I am planning on wiring in a Haltech 4 Wire heated 02 sensor if I can not get a hold of the OZ DIY wideband in the very near future
