all the work done in normal mode saved when going to matrix?

I had A-spec tune my car a year or so ago and found it runs darn good but could be a bit better. For example.

1) At low load (free rev in the driveway) I can tell the car wants less fuel (using mixtrim) but it just doesn't seem to want to run right making the corrections in normal mode

2) a slight hesitation around 3k

3) part throttle boost hesitation around the stage point.

My question is, what happens to the map when I switch to matrix mode? what values does it keep or translate? It would be damn nice if I could switch and have it run the same way it does now so I can do some fine tuning. Or do I start from ground zero again?

The manual has instructions for copying the normal mode values to matrix, but having never done it I don't know what the result will be. I think it just populates the 4000 RPM "LOAD" line on the matrix table.

In my opinion, "normal" mode should be avoided at all costs. It is essentially "carburetor" mode and quite unhelpful in the real world.

Aaron, you seem to be the only microtech guy left LOL.

Yeah I saw the procedure for making a matrix mode map where you tune for 4000rpm and make all maps the same then fine tune from there.

What would be nice to know is if I can switch between the two while I work on the matrix map while still being able to enjoy the car in normal mode. I just emailed microtech and I'll report back my findings.

I don't believe you can switch easily.

But you could just save each map to the dongle and then swap back and forth.

Yeah microtech told me you can go between each other if you save them in different bins. However as you basically start over in matrix mode. But it lets me work on it then reload the normal mode map to drive the car around.

to setup the matrix mode you stick in a reasonable 2D handset tune then set all maps the same on the ID screen by selecting then holding the program button down for a couple of seconds
screens 2 - 16 will will be enabled and the current load screen ( was screen 8 = 4000 rpm ) will be copied across
( screens 17 and 18 disabled, they are for setting up the normal mode 2.5 D tune that you can use very successfully if you have a clue )

you then tailor that tune for each 500 rpm individually, much like you would on any other PC tune ECU

the 2.5D tune had its place for the handset only generation ( MTX and digi ) and is still retro avail to this day with LT10
if you know what your doing its a good thing, quick and painless, and intended for do as you drive
( taking advantage of the WOT and cruise tune setting in screens 17 and 18 you can tweak them reasonably well for load and cruise at most rpms )

beware when you go matrix initially it will have some bugs with the idle tune especially
you will probably need to personally setup the 500 and 1000 and -25, -20 and maybe -15 in Hg maps the same to get around it

PS save the normal map to memcal 1 in the handset ( id opening screen 34 )
save you successive matrix maps to mecal 2 and 3 or 4
( select and hold prog for a few secs to save or load )

P or M on the keyboard equates to the same thing as the program button on the handset if PC hooked up

i use normal mode for base tuning then switch to matrix for fine tuning. sometimes switching will cause buggy figures to be input into random RPM maps which can easily be flattened back out, the matrix mode basically copies your "load" map into all of your 4500+ RPM maps, that is all. you will have to make adjustments to your 4k and below maps after the switch as mentioned also.

i still find it easier to do it this way but for fine tuning no real tuner should be tuning in "normal" mode only. doing so lets me setup the load map to see if there is any fuel trim problems like running leaner as RPMs increase and to setup the 4k to 9k maps linearly without having to grudgingly adjust each induvidually(i'm sure there's an easier way i just find it easier to start this way).
