Thinking about a Megasquirt
 

Let me start this off by saying I am old, over 50 and not a wealth of knowledge on FI, or Rotaries for that matter. I have built an Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite with a street ported NA 13B. It currently runs a Dellorto side draft. I am thinking of going efi, specifically a Megasquirt 3Pro. I do not have enough hood clearance for the stock throttle body so I am thinking of using a TWM side draft throttle body.

I have just read Aaron's FC article, I will need to read it several times to fully comprehend it. Any thoughts on the pieces I should acquire to do this conversion and what vendors I can purchase them from. Also, any links on similar installations would be appreciated.

Hi Ed. I'm 62 and built my ms3/ms3x, the people here are very helpful. You might want to watch Aaroncake ' s videos lots of good info.

The amount of info is pretty overwhelming. I think I am getting a handle on the plan. I will by the ecu already assembled from DIYAutotune, I will have enough variables to deal with without building my own ecu. ant suggestions on which throttle body to use?

I have done a install for a customer using the www.efihardware.com.au 55mm tapered bore throttle body on a 13b pp. currently installed with 4x 550cc ev14 inj. they use the standard webber/Ida pattern. they do a awesome range.

I agree with going with a pre assembled unit. if you are getting your head around things it is one less potential issue.

If you want a pre-assembled unit, then the MS3-Pro is a good choice. Not only is it fully assembled, but the case is much better, as are the connectors, and it has much improved VR conditioners over the standard MS3x.

You can then use an FC CAS and coils, which allows you to basically follow my writeup for wiring it all up.

Thanks for the info, Aaron I am going to buy the MS3-Pro and wire it up exactly as your article explains. I am also trying to figure out how to use the stock Intake and Plenum. Thanks for the help.

Boxes are arriving, I ordered the MS3 Pro, Jenvey ITB's, FFE Crank Trigger, and a ton of other hard parts. One more question I have is on coils. My car currently uses a 1st Gen Distributor and coils, are they usable with this set up or should I be using something else?

if you want full control on the engine the 1st gen distributor and coils are useless.

You'll want to either use FC coils (in my experience this is the most trouble free and reliable option) or go to four individual coils (LS-whatever or other). The MS3-Pro will be happy with either.

The dizzy will be removed and the hole capped. The SA/FB coils won't be much use.

If you wanted you could trigger the system from the dizzy but then you give up timing control and sequential injection. Not a good option.
