MS projects anyone?

1 Attachment(s)
It looks like this section of the forum is somewhat dead! Where is everyone? I know it takes cash to make our projects happen but we can still talk about what we want to do, May be throw an idea out and some of us can make the idea better!

My projects,

#1, my 88 GXL gone turbo, the project I've been working on for a while now. I have had nothing but bad luck with the gaskets for the turbo, it became so bad I ditched the factory setup and am currently building a new "ebay" setup. Accept my setup involves some tial parts, but the turbo and manifold is from ebay. I got a nice christmass bonus from work and i'm expecting quite a bit from my tax return so that will help me finish my project.

I'm starting with the bone stock S4 13bt, I got the atkins corner seals, S6 corner seal springs, going with S6 2 piece apex seals, Got the rotary aviation soft seal kit:icon_tup: not bad for the price.

For porting I'm going to use a large street port template for the intake, and a race template for the exhaust. This turbo I got has a 1.15 trim so i need all the exhaust i can get to it to spin it. I just got a tial 44mm wastegate and i'm going to fab my downpipe and anything else I need for the exhaust.

#2, I just got my FB running again, What i'm planing on doing is building a MS2 unit for my 88 and using my MS1 unit in the FB to control just timing. The FB has a racing beat intake with a 600 Holley on it, I'd like to later adapt the projection setup to make it fully tunable with the megasquirt. But that is later on down the road since i drive the FB to work and back every day now.

Lets hear about your projects!

peep the custom mount airpump. still gotta run this thing through inspection. but i got this big turbo now. caused some conflict. so i had to keep the stock cat for the airpump till i get through emissions. but my t04s has 4"inlet and 3" ss downpipe reduced to stock cat. pita.

oh yeah ms2/extra 1.0 something, act 6puck unsprung, junkyard efan, sx fpr, walbro fp, jegs fuel stuff and obviously more things fabed from aluminum than i wanted in the firstplace.:icon_no2: but thats how it goes. build on a budget. fabbed everything from scap aluminum bank and atm signs. with the price of the car, id say i have about 3500 or $4000 in it so far. and thats being liberal. i used as much stock na stuff as possible. throttle cable, radiator, oil cooler, etc...

^ If for any reason you need any help with any part of the MS setup, tuning, and or software, let me know, maybe I can help. After over a year of running it and playing with it and tuning it, I'm pretty well rehearsed on it.

Brian i may need help setting my injectors staging point(it really confused me)
and i dont know were or how to set my cranking timing settings cause on a BP you need to advance the timing a little bit to get it to start so i guess that i need play with the settings and find out,Thanks Joey

This is good, It's cool to see everyone sharing your toys:naughty:

I'm going to paint my car after I get the engine out, I have a few colors in mind. Since I'm in the auto body field I can get my hands on what ever paint I want. This is two of the colors I like so far, Sorry, I like dark colors.

budrud 12-22-07 12:46 PM

I have been collecting parts for a ms project and am putting it together on a stand for a spring install. I have a atkins street port 12a, a cartech draw-thru turbo kit, and a gm tbi from a small block v-8. My intent is to run the megasquirt fuel only first then think about the ignition.
Am I nuts or is this doable?

2Lucky2tha7 12-22-07 02:30 PM

^ wiring up the ignition is fairly simple and straight-forward really. However, to do it, you will need the 2nd gen trailing and leading coils with the ignitors they are bolted to. You will also need a 2nd gen crank angle sensor as well. Maybe some spark plug wires too. Well, maybe. Other than that, it's pretty straightforward (and simple if you ask me.) Just my .02

budrud 12-22-07 04:49 PM

Thanks I'll start rounding up the parts you mentioned. I was thinking fuel first to shorten the learning curve a bit. I can be a simple lad at times

toplessFC3Sman 12-22-07 11:58 PM

Mine is on my turbo-swapped vert, mostly stock setup, but no emissions, FMIC, slight exhaust porting. I'll be switching from MS1 to MS2 sometime soon... just need to find a time when i dont need my car for a few days, just in case.

My friends and I just got done yanking out the engine, WHAT A DIRTY GIRL.

I had to edit this post, you can see all the mess the exhaust gaskets left behind...

Jobro 12-29-07 02:40 AM

I have one, I'm wiring my 82GSL equivalent for injection. I had been using MS1-extra for about a year using various different ignition options. My setup is

12A tallport turbo ported, exhaust ported also
TII intake with 12A-13B adaptor
91 TII Turbo + 2.5" exhaust
600x300x76 FMIC 2.5" piping
LC-1 for tuning
2x TII Injectors + 2x 870cc Siemens
TII coils
Detoothed TII CAS

I'm in the middle of a wiring job thats spent nearly 3 days so far

I have to have the car ready 28/01/2008 to plug it all in at the shop.

quasar 12-30-07 01:58 AM

jobro, that sounds awesome! Let us know how you make out.

mperformance 12-30-07 11:35 AM

First time I share mine too...

Turbo II S4 Streetported and built by me. Car runs ok with stock ECU. I got it started about a week ago fuel and spark with MS 2.2v, extra code with single VR circuit. Will be tuning it soon as I fix the problem we had we a spike.

Good luck with all your projects, this sure is fun.

joeylyrech 01-04-08 09:38 PM

You said yours was a dirty girl.....you ain't seen nothin yet. What you can see is a lot of dirt. What you can't see is what it's stuck to. The previous owner sprayed the entire engine bay with undercoating. Nasty stuff and a BITCH to remove. Here's before and after lacquer thinner and tons of elbow grease:

I still have to scuff sand and repaint.

Here are a couple pics of my almost-completed MS.
I played around in Megatune with the MS1 chip but I decided to go with MS2 which should be here next week.
Here is the TIP120 mod:

.......and the start of the 2nd VR circuit build:

I am still collecting parts to do my engine build. Here's my setup:
s4TII rotors (new)
s5 rear iron
large streetport
A/W intercooler (will start a thread for that project soon)
Turbo-back full RB exhaust
T04b hybrid s5 turbo
Shine Auto FC2000 body kit w/ Shine 30mm widebody fenders
245/40R17 Ventus tires on 8x17 Mustang Cobra rims ('02 petal style, not star)
Re-dyed carpet and leather seats
Numerous small stuff

I finally got my wastegate from my local speed shop, took them a month to get it in!

Anyhow I took some stuff to my welding guy so i could bring it home and make my home made downpipe work than I'll take it back to my welding guy to finish the welds.

That's cool, the job always comes out better when you plan ahead and take your time.

I'm sure that crap was hard to get off but from the picture it looks like it preserved the paint under it.

The lacquer thinner did an amazing job removing it for the most part. Where it was thick in places (1/4" or so) it took some brushing to get it off. I actually polished and waxed the upper firewall for the hell of it and it shined right up, but there are several places where it is thin or worn down to primer, and I discovered lots of cancer on the driver side frame rail when I removed the battery tray and wire harness. Not happy about that. I hate body work big time.

unfortunitly that has always been a problem cancer area, It looks far enough forward where the subframe bolt isn't disturbed. As long as you can manage to keep it from rusting closer to that bolt you should be ok.
