Let me see if I can ask this correctly:
For my setup (series 4 housings, series 5 N/A rotating assembly, Racing Beat pulley), where should I "zero" my timing on the pulley? Should I find a series 4 hub/pulley setup and set it to the factory mark, or should I set it to 0 degrees TDC on the Racing Beat pulley? I am using your timing map by the way. After reading through all this pulley and timing difference stuff between the series 4 and 5 housings, and considering a have an aftermarket RB pulley, I am a bit stumped. Can you help clarify this for me? I know my timing is definitely off, but I need to know where to exactly set it to.

The timing marks on the Racing Beat pulley/hub combo are (from left to right) 10*ATDC, TDC, 10*BTDC, and 20*BTDC. So, if the software will allow locking timing at 0*, then use the 2nd to left mark. The timing marks on the Racing Beat pulley are solidly, known-good in that they're tied directly to the crankshaft.

Yeah, to set a fixed timing, change -10 to whatever timing you want above -10 in the "Fixed angle" box in the spark dialog.

This is probably a bit much to ask, but how much should I take away from the timing map that you have for a street ported 13B that is running 9.7:1 rotors (6-port). My friend will be running anywhere from 5-12 psi considering that he most likely has the 3-piece apex seals in his rebuilt 6-port in his 89 vert, so I figured that 12psi should be the max. Also, the fuel situation and intercooler has been taken care of. 550/680 injectors and front mount w/ a To4b, walbro and adjustable fpr, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, thanks for the clarification on the whole pulley/ timing situation!! :)

Also, it's been quite some time since I really got into the MS software ever since I got mine running last year, but is there a way I can lock the timing at 0* so I can set the timing on my friends RX? If not, I'll just use a quick temp timing map and use the same number all across and quickly set it.

Thanks guys

The only way that I know of the lock the timing at zero is to just set all of the timing map points to zero.

For anyone that is interested, I have the factory Mazda timing maps for the S4 n/a all figured out and loaded into MS tables. Get a wideband, aim for a 13.5 afr across the board and start tweaking from there.

Rotarygod, can you post your factory map? I'd like to compare it to the one I came up with, which was also supposed to mimic the factory map.

Also, to set the timing to a fixed timing of 0, you'll want to use the "fixed angle" setting.

Change it from -10 to 0.

well the people at usps lost my package again( my new master power turbo)so im gonna try to start my motor and running NA for now,BDC did you happen to have a NA advance and split table?Sorry for being a pain in the as#%^%&and keep asking for help but i cant wait to have this car up and running thanks Joey

brief q again. This is for a friend of mine. Any estimate as to how many degrees I should take out in the 125-200 kpa area for a series 5 stock port 6-port turbo setup? I'm basing this off of the extend-port timing map. Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

any updates on how some cars are running on the extended port map? I am just about to install my MS. Thanks BDC.

I have been using BDC's extended port map for about a month now. So far, on a stock port motor it has been pretty good. I backed the timing off in boost so I can get AFRs dialed in. I have not felt the need to make any adjustments yet off boost because the car drives so well. Once I get the AFRs stable I'll play with the timing but I think that BDC's extended port map gives you a good place to start.

Good! I'm glad to hear positive results. Those tables were made directly around street ported S4-S5 stuff that I do. The ports aren't aggressive. Probably not a bad idea to pull 1-2* out while under heavy load. My target advance is normally 13-14* leading at 15psi and about 30-33* advance at 0" depending on the setup.
