FD3S Megasquirt

I recently Started my fd rebuild. Mega squirt ms1 3.0 powered

I have now done 3 mega squirts with minor problems. The one i installed in a 2nd gen went flawlessly. But after looking around the forums i haven't seen anyone do one with the stock 3rd gen wank sensor.

should i try to make it work with the 3rd gen sensor or should i try to swap it to a CAS? If I can provide pic's of the sensor could someone help me with the missing tooth settings/ trigger settings?

Thanks;
Ryan

I could give the timing a shot, however make sure that when you take pics, you designate what position it is at TDC for rotor 1 (i dont know if its clear or not, never seen the FD's timing sensors)

Use the factory hall sensor it will look neater and Hall setups have a better SNR!

The stock FD crank sensor is a 12+1 Variable reluctor type, unless I'm missing something.

I was under the impression that the FD crank sensor gave the same output as the FC's CAS. The FC has more teeth just because it rotates at half the speed.

Im pretty sure your right. And im sure it is a vr sensor.

As far as the rotor timing goes how can you tell TDC? i thought it was when the rear rotor apex seal is at the trailing plug the front rotor is at TDC?

I found it by probing with a screw driver through the T plug hole when the rotor was closest to maximum squish, and then this would make it easy to find which way to bolt the front hub on as there are timing marks on the front cover and the hub.

This was with a 12A tho.

I've had an FD running MS1 briefly on a 2.2 board about 3 years ago.

The main issue we had trouble with was noise on the G sensor. We fixed this with an extra capacitor from G+ to ground on the lm1815 daughterboard.

I don't remember how I decided where TDC was, but the signal from the FD e-shaft position sensor looked the same timing wise as the signal from FC CAS.

Thanks for the input ken :icon_tup:. I plan on trying to document the install to help in the future.
