850cc primary and setting idle
 
So after getting to point of first fire-up, I managed to get it to fire up until it flooded out. Set the injector pulse width from the 14ms from the base maps to 10ms and it will now not die out in seconds from too much fuel. Anyone else out there have a Link running 850cc primarys? If so what are you running for the pulse width?

My personal map is for 1000cc's but should be really close to what you have. What's your email addy?

PM sent. After looking over the base maps from Link, looks like all 3 (G4 RX, S6 500/1000, S7 base) have a 14ms base injection pulse. Assuming all are set for 550cc primaries and a little math (550cc x 14ms = 7700) that makes me believe that I should be closer to 9ms (7700/850 = 9.05). Following the same thought process would push 1000's to just below 8ms (7700/1000 = 7.7). This is based on the assumption that the idle fuel requirements are around the same level from engine to engine (stock ports with only injector change).


*Note this info should be taken with a grain of salt as I have never tuned a rotary, even more specifically a Link ECU.

The idea is to set the base so that around the center area of the map the the figures are around 50, that way there's plenty of adjustment either way. There's a lot of multipliers that are taken into account when trying to calculate overall milliseconds of injectoing pulse. Not just percentage over base. When I get home I'll send you that map.

i thought the idea was to set your injector ms for 100% injector duty cycle at max rpm?....

I typically do not like to go over 80% at peak manifold pressures. I will try to get some logs from tuning I did down in Binghamton last week. He was running 720 primaries.

I was mainly concentrating on setting a base level that would allow the engine to not flood out due to too much fuel like this:


Basically wanting it to be able to warm up and get up to temp so I can check over everything for loose connections / leaks. So it can be prepped for actual tuning.

2 850cc injectors with 30kpa/900rpm of manifold vacuum should be down in the 1-1.5 range.

Also how is your fuel pressure looking?

Also are we referring to the Master Fuel setting or is it your idle target?
If I was in your shoes the master would be at 8.9,
and idle targeting 1-1.2


Additionally what are your 2 lowest RPM columns on your fuel table?
Once the master is set you can lean out the columns 700rpm and under, it may produce a searching idle but should keep it running.

sorry about thread hijacking.

how about 1260cc primaries and E85? base fuel pressure about 45-50psi. having a hard time starting it when its cold. i used quicktune for the idle when i got it warmed up. and now it runs about AFR 14.6 on idle and as soon as i touch the throttle the AFR shoots up.

Fuel pressure is at 40psi as per the regulator.

Referring to the "Master Fuel" setting in the "Fuel Main" area. As stated the base maps were set to 14ms which flooded it out after a few moments of idling. Unfortunately the system won't allow decimal's so has to be set with whole numbers as it automatically rounds up/down.

Fuel Table goes from 0->8500 in 500 increments. So have 0-500-1000.

Were you able to get it to stay idle?

If you know how to manipulate the fuel table, you can find the cells in the 500-1000rpm range -40 to -100. Subtract 5 from the values. I am not sure of your experience but working those specific cell ranges until you get your target afr should be fairly easy and safe.

i am having trigger issues with my fd at the moment but i was able to get a bit of decent logging with a smooth idle, im running 650cc injectors with a master fuel of 13ms (9000rpmx13ms inj opening time = 97.5%injector duty cycle). as you can see with rpm around the 900 mark, map at about 50-60kpa fuel pressure set up at 43psi with engine off (resulting in a rock solid 36psi at idle) im idling on about 3.5-3.7 ms. you probly wont need this much opening time since youre running bigger injectors. what sort of figures are you getting for actual injector actual PW?

Like I mentioned before I have 0 experience tuning. That coupled with my Wideband display being toast (output to ECU was good and sensor properly warming up, but nothing on the display) and having to RMA it. Leaves me with time to forum warrior about base fuel levels so once I do get things buttoned up I'll be able to do more. Figured the more info that can be put in black and white on the forums for base startups the better for the next guy.
