Smoked a BIG BLOCK
I have a close friend with a Chevy Nova that is home for a 396 big block. Jan 1st was supposed to be hangover fest but it got snowed out so we didn't get 2 go. We decided to make a couple runs last week and we had a blast. From a roll, I managed to pull about 6 cars on him. From a dig, i pulled a little less but still enough to embarrass him. My car is pretty much stock. Intake and Exhaust.
LS1FTMFW!!!:shocking: |
Ya, I've got a friend with a 470 in a 70 Chevelle. He recently paid $20K+ to have it restored. At the time I had access to a full shop with a paint booth. I told him I would do the engine (put an LSx in it), paint and body. He desided to let someone else do the work.
6 months later, he gets it back, and brings it to me to tune the engine... valve noise. (dunno why he didn't take it to the guy that built the damn motor....) After I straighten it out, he starts bragging infront of everybody, "yeah... four hundred and seventy cubic inchs of pavenment pounding..... blah blah." I say, "my little 346 outside will stop your ass right now.", "bullshit.", "no shit." We go round and round for a minute, then I take him for a ride. After that, he didn't really want to race. |
what year was the nova and what all was done to it?

Nice quasi Kill.
V8 ftw! |
i call bs on this one, that 396 would walk you like crazy the mods you've done is not enough to take so.......BS
|
Umm... I'm not sure if this guy has an LS1 in his Rx-7? All bets are off then
|
2 cars are mentioned
2 engines are mentioned He raced against a 396 big block Do the math |
^ that still doesnt answer my question
|
An LS1 in an RX-7 is going to be under 3000 pounds, that big block in that Nova is a lot heavier. Not to mention it's the 396, which has displacement that can be reached in one of the small blocks (400ci is a popular stroked/bored displacement in small blocks and even came in some old Pontiacs) so the motor at that point is just extra weight because it is going to have the same general output as the LS1 (it has more power but also more weight). An LS1 FD will probably run mid 12s on the strip with no mods, a stock 396 Nova will probably get high 13s.
