My Fd vs. Cobra (Video)
Here's how it all started: I was at the cruising spots hanging out with some friends. Well it started to get late around 1am so I decided to go home. About ten minutes into my way home my friend calls me up and says that there's a car that wants to race you. I asked to see what car it was and my friend said that he didnt know...lol...so i was like wtf???I turned back to the cruising spot shortly after I arrived everyone was like "So are you racing that Cobra?" My response: Sure for the hell of it..hahha.
1st run (40-100+): My car is sooo damn loud I didnt even hear the guy honk. He gets the punch and beats me. Looked like I was reeling him in but he let off. 2nd run (40-??): Well again I didnt hear him honk and he gets the punch..but this time I freakin miss third...lol...yeah sucks.. 3rd run (50-100+): This time the Cobra's passenger sticks his hands out the window and counts. I get a slight jump on the start and I beat him by a car. 4th run (50-100+): This time we both get on it at the same time and I beat him by half a car to a car. Rx7: 365-370whp at 12psi Cobra: 392whp at ??psi http://youtube.com/watch?v=s05uHbjtMM4 Ignore our talking in the background...lol...this is my little bro filming...:D |
Guess it's time to up the boost a lil more ;)
Nice run :) |

Yea, there is nothing like having to keep up with the times.
At least it keeps us on our toes :D |
nice run

That cobra likely had closer to 430rwhp. Exhaust ,ntake and a pulley swap puts them around there (which everyone does a pulley swap). On a 390rwhp cobra, i'd expect you to pull a little harder but I guess torque factors in though so who knows.
|
Nice run, seems like the cobra should be making more power then that though.... could be wrong though.

Nice runs. You need to shift a lil sooner though don't you think?

Nice runs. You need to shift a lil sooner though don't you think? GRANNY SHIFTERS. |
Nice runs. Thanks for posting the video.
If you're gonna installed a bigger turbo then you need to run more than 12 psi boost. 12psi is low for a 500R which would run much stonger in the 15-25 psi range. Jack |

fwiw... i raced an 03 cobra with 420rwhp and i peeled the paint off his car with only 360rwhp. the stock twins are faster then singles that are making the same peak rwhp. i also raced a fd with t78 when he was on low boost making 360 rwhp and at the time i was making 340 on the stock twins. it wasnt even a race i had about 3 buses on him by 140 mph |

why sooner? I know i redlined that one time in second cuz it reved up sooo fast..I shifted right at 7500rpm everytime...explain what you mean by shifting a little sooner.

Nice runs dude. Did you brake boost sorta in the 3rd, or i think 4th run?
|
naw...no brake boosting...i did in the first run...but exhaust was so loud i couldnt hear the honking...so i stopped...i know it doesnt sound loud in the vid but in reality it is loud. (running HKS 4inch Ti)
And yes I know the 12psi is low for the 500r but since it's not healthy I didnt want to push it any harder. I'll definately crank up the boost once I get the bigger turbo on. Matty, I know that the twins are fast...I beaten many cars with more hp with my stock twins...I miss them but the 500r's response is realatively close to the twins. It's just that the turbo is in bad condition so I start losing high end :( BTW I made 365whp at 12psi taking it up to only 6000rpm. Stopped at 6000rpm b/c I had a freshly rebuilt motor and had just finished breaking it in. Didnt want things to go bad. Thanks for all your positive and negative reviews. |

YAYYY!!!! sooo good to see you rockin out :D
guys you have to understand this turbo is seriously fubar. i did not tune him over 12psi because there was no need. 365 @ 6000rpms isn't bad for being busted and the tune is definitely on the conservative side. quit telling him to shift at 8k+ hahaha the power is falling off before then and there's no need!!! LOL we have some serious plans for the near future ohhhhhhhhhh yes ;) oh and tony... that horn (or lack there of) made me laugh, i had forgotten how quiet it is! |
Were you guys on 421?
|
Good runs. Any pics of your car?
Good to see some local guys going at it. BTW, where was this at? |
