You're new here, but are you "new" here?

I bought my first RX-7 way back around 1990. I read some things about rotary engines and, because I was a kid of a mechanic and liked to be different, I knew I had to have one. Well, that and I found out you could rev the pee out of them.
It was a butt-ugly '79 in four colors (I was thinkin' it was 3 colors, but it was actually 4) The body was white with a silver hood, red/maroon header panel and blue headlights. A shot of white from a rattle can (several) and some good tuning added 33% to the selling price. I bought it for $900 and sold it for $1,200. The bent axle never seemed to slow me down. Oddly enough, of all the speeding tickets I earned as a teen driver, I never got one in the RX-7. Maybe the cops didn't want to be seen pulling me over. Anyway, I wish I had never parted with it.
I loved to zip around and drop the accelerator pedal as I passed people because it would backfire through the exhaust... Before I bought it, no one told me about the shift buzzer. Though our meetings we short, they were frequent so we got well-acquainted and grew to be good friends.
Almost twenty years later I can't wait to get my hands on another one. A mid-life project for me and something fun for me and the 4-year-old to mess up together.
When did you fall in love?

Remind me to tell you about the time all hell broke loose on a trip to Dallas.

It would have to be about 10 yrs ago. I had an 89 GTA while a coworker had a GTU. We would run into each other on the palmetto just before 103st going to work in the mornings. I would take him every time but I could never get it out of my head how a 1.3 kept up with a 5.7 every time as to stay on my tail. All he had was some exhaust work done with custom secondary injectors. About a month later , I bought my first FB for 800. I had been bitten by the rotor.

Funny how the displacement doesn't really equate.

C'mon you guys, tell us when you first knew you had to have a RX7. You know you need 5 posts, this is the introduce yourself section and you will be adding to your own introduction, so-to-speak.

Don't make me change the thread title to "Hot chick wrenching her own 7" or something :rlaugh:
