Vinman 7
Hey there, new to the site. Live in Michigan. I was able to purchase a one owner 1980 RX 7 GS with 14K miles on it, So yes it sat in a garage it's whole life. Had it towed to my house before turning the key I removed the fuel tank and had it recondition. Re installed the tank and flushed the fuel system and turn the key. Started right up ran good but noticed a miss type sound in the exhaust. this miss got worse to a point its like running on one rotor. I replaced the plugs and wires. no help. I am not very familiar with this ignition system with two coils. I did test the coils and both checked out. So I am looking for advice to get the motor running smooth. I feel its an electrical issue but not 100% sure.

A 1980 with only 14K miles is quite a find. Maybe if you posted a video of the engine running with the miss?

I could do that though it's hard to keep it running. You can smell a lot of raw fuel out of the exhaust.

Welcome to forum, It could be one of the electronic ignition modules

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new SA!! I would love to see more pictures of the car! As for the miss, I would confirm that you have both leading and trailing spark and that the spark is good spark and not weak. Did you rebuild the carburetor and replace the fuel filter when you had the tank refurbished? If not, its probably not a bad idea to do that to ensure the entire fuel system has been gone through.

@vinman7 beautiful car! We would love to see more pictures of it when you get the chance! Where in Michigan do you live, out of curiosity? I am in the Tri-Cities (Bay City, Saginaw, and Midland). You may want to do a compression test to rule that out. I do have a compression tester we could use. It sounds electrical though... keep us updated!
