Selling my brothers car

Hi, my brother in Vancouver is ill, has a 1987 rx7 he said he would like to sell, it has a rebuilt turbo engine, new brakes, newly reupholstered seats, hasn’t been driven in a couple of years, it’s stored in a garage. It has 166,000 kms. I have no idea of the value of the vehicle. It’d have to be towed I think? The battery is dead and there’s something leaking on the garage floor. Any input is appreciated.

Sorry to hear about your brother.

Valuation can be a little tough, but based on the pictures it looks like it's in good shape. Bringatrailer can help guage the higher end values, while marketplace will be all over the map for condition and value.

Might be helpful look for a local RX7 FB group. They might be able to help give you a price range to list it at based on what they know of the local market.

First off, I'm sorry to hear that you're brother is ill. I'm not sure of his diagnosis, but I really hope its something that is treatable and will get better in time. As for the RX-7, it appears to be a nice 87 TurboII. The reupholstered seats do look nice! The rest of the car from what we are able to see looks very nice and is definitely worth a fair amount. The common things people will ask is how rusty is the car underneath, are there receipts for the rebuilt engine, and has the engine been compression tested recently. To get the most out of the car, it will need to be running and driving. It would be great if some local enthusiasts could help you get the car operational before sale. Or if it were taken to a local specialist to be gone through. If that's not possible, which is understandable given your brother's situation, be prepared to negotiate a little. Otherwise, it could be very simple to get the car up and running. From what we can tell, the car appears to be in very nice shape and will sell for a fair amount. We are all here to help, so please feel free to ask any questions you have!

Hi, thank you very much for your response. We would be so grateful for any help in getting his vehicle sold and would gladly pay to get it up and running. If it is something that you might be interested in doing could you please contact me, sktippin@gmail.com. My brother said the car was running before his illness, he said he thinks it needs two batteries and the tires are low. We do have the paperwork for the engine rebuild, in 2018.

Service Centre?

Hi would anyone have a recommendation for a service centre that could evaluate the issues with the car and fix what needs to be done? The car is in the Kitsilano area of Vancouver. Thank you

I would love to get the car back on the road and operational for you and your brother. The issue is the distance. I'm not in Canada and transporting a non running car into the U.S. would not be practical or cost efficient. I can however, offer advice and tech assistance on the forum. I would suggest posting in the regional forum section and selecting your specific region and perhaps there would be someone more local that could help with the physical aspect of it.

Hi, thank you for your generous offer. I’ve joined the Vancouver club and I’m searching for someone who can evaluate what’s needed and what it’s worth. I appreciate your input and will reach out to you further if I need to.

Not advisable to publish your email on public forum viewed by anybody around the world. Expect to get scam messages shortly.

We have a local (Vancouver Canada) Rotary group with many FC owners.

I will bring your post to the attention of the group.

Good luck.

We hope to see the car out at one of our meets soon.
