Second introduction
 

I inherited my dad's 94 FD touring model about two years ago and I've posted here a few times, but, I've been away from the car pretty much the whole time. (The car was in Texas and I was in Hawaii with the Navy.) Now, I am back in Texas (Cedar Park) and am moving to Killeen for college. So, I'm going to be a lot more hands on with my FD from now on and be on the forum more often.

My goal is to get the car back to good condition in stock form with very modest upgrades. (By that I mean that I want the car as close to 'like new' condition and not be noticeably modified to the untrained eye.) So far, I've had the engine replaced with a reman 13b-REW, (stock spec.) Replaced one of the turbos, (stock spec.) Replaced the innercooler, (stock spec.) Upgraded to a down pipe. Upgraded all the appropriate hoses with silicone ones. Replaced broken headlight covers.

So the car runs like new and I've put about 4000 shake down miles on it with all the new parts. Current odometer reading is ~71,500 miles. So far, so good.

Currently, my to-do list in the following order is:
1. Replace all 4 tires (Ordered Yokohama S-Drives in stock size)
2. Replace muffler that's developing a hole... I'll be looking for an upgrade here.
3. Fixing dents and repainting whole car with stock Montego Bule
4. Replace damaged door seals and window seals
5. New leather for seats
6. Refurbishing the Bose wave sound system. (several broken clips on the "tube" and the CD player isn't working.)
7. Fix LH mirror motor
8. Replace a few interior plastic parts like the cracked windshield defroster vent.
9. Misc. things that pop up along the way.

When my car was stockish ... I had a downpipe, midpipe, stock muffler. I really liked the sound of it. It sounded cool and looks stock... I'd paint the entire muffler black and polish the stock tips.

The horsepower bug bit me and eventually the stock muffler had to go. But i swear I miss the sound of my old setup. quiet, yet mean sounding and made the car seem so much faster.

forgot to mention. If you go with a midpipe and stock muffler, you will pick up a lot more power (and lose weight) than going with an aftermarket muffler and keeping the stock cat. You also should not have any boost creep issues.

Thanks for the tip on the Round Rock or Georgetown RX7 guru... I've been taking the car to MZM in Austin, and they've been good, but, I'm always interested in knowledgeable alternatives with good reputations.

Dont forget to tune it. Getting an aftermarket ECU will help the car run a lot more smoothly even if you want to keep it relatively stock. Apexi FC is pretty common and a relatively good ECU but if your willing to spend the money id go with a Haltech P1000

hello hello, im still getting use to this, but welcome

I'm from Houston but up in Austin alot! Is there a good rx7 scene up there? There are alot of v8 swapped ones here in houston.

Welcome to the club! nice car to inherit. I agree with the posts above on the cat. get rid of it, and you will open up the horsepower, just make sure to watch your boost (it may start to creep) I suggest getting a boost gauge ASAP!
