SA22 Twin Turbo

Hi,
New to the forum, am going to fit an FD Twin Turbo engine and gearbox into my 1983 SA22, Has any one on the forum had any experience or advise regarding this modification?
Many Thanks
Ian

This is pretty freaky. I mean, now there is another person with the name Ian. Not only that but another person whose name is Ian Smith... That also happens to own an 83.....

*mind explodes

You have entered the Twilight Zone
Beyond this world strange things are known
Use the key, unlock the door
See what your fate might have in store...
Come explore your dreams' creation
Enter this world of imagination...

An 83 is not a SA22, it's an FB3S. Good luck though.

In England a 1983 RX7 is an SA22, Thanks for your good wishes

sounds like an insane project, but I 'm sure you will find help around here.

you're better off going with a 13b-re out of the cosmo or a TII motor, because of the different motor mounts and different type of ignition trigger. I'm not saying that it can't be done, it's just not worth the extra effort. Oh, and ditch the twins and go with a small, responsive single. Look in the 3rd gen section for a post by Howard Coleman, titled something along the lines of "Making a case for the rotary powered RX-7". It breaks down the problems with the FD's TT setup, and gives solutions to the problems. Also, check in the 1st gen section under the Archives and there is a how-to for swapping in a 13b-re or a TII motor. Good luck.

Cheers Mate, but have already sourced engine, gearbox and all ancillaries from FD so am past point of no return, it has been done by several people, having done a few transplants previously on various vehicles i always seem to end up thinking "next time i would do this or that another way"
I raced an SA22 in the classic touring car championship and found the 3.7 turns lock to lock a bit to much for the tight and twisty U.K circuits so am gonna go rack and pinion steering so plan to not have to alter sump (oilpan) and the motor has the sequential turbo mod so has lost a lot of the vacuum pipes to make things a bit less complicated, have got the engine wiring harness back to the E.C.U. which is an apexi one with the F.C. commander fitted so that will do for a dash.
I drove the F.D before i took the motor out it had 320 rear wheel horsepower so should bring my old SA22 up to date quite nicely.
Happy Days

once again, good luck. Look at ReSpeed for their Rack and Pinion setup, a few people have it installed in their cars, and it looks like a great product. I'd also talk to Billy at ReSpeed to see if he can put motor mounts in the correct position for the 13b-rew so it's a bolt in operation.
