Hi all,

I'm quite new to the rx7 game. I have an 87 fc and I bought an 87 turbo 2 to swap into it. It's got an rtek 1.5 ecu and a koyo aluminum rad. Those are the only mods so far. I also swapped the s5 tail lights. Much nicer in my opinion.

Curious if anyone's got advice for fairly affordable mods that will help this car out on the drift track.

Can't wait to get started. I'm sure I'll be using this forum and all it's resources in the process.

Looks like next month its getting injectors, Haltech Sprint RE and a front mount setup. That ought to do it for now I hope.

Hello fellow Canadian... Your car looks SICK, love the color. These cars are great platforms for drifting, I can't wait to start modifying my 87 FC.

Fly_Dreams 05-29-11 10:51 PM

if your already planing on doing turbo II thats decent power for drift.... so then suspension is a great mod for drift like coilovers, Im getting myself Stance GR+Pro soon because they are the best bang for the buck, and provide great preformance. thats clean looking fc btw.

streetport89vert 05-30-11 02:27 AM

everyones different but i removed my rear swaybar its free to do lol it helps get rid of the wicked snapback of the fc. it looks like you already have some kind of suspension thats a big deal, get a lsd or go cheap and weld your open diff, install rearsteer eliminators they cost around $40 makes it more predictable and comfortable. hella front camber with 25psi in front and and like 50 or 60psi in the rear. thats a pretty good way to start off i think. it helped me out alot but like i said everyones different. oh yeah get alot of seat time

GraemeRx7 05-30-11 12:28 PM

I went a little overboard. The swap will have:

New 6 puck solid clutch
Haltech sprint re
1000cc secondary injectors
Fmic
Greddy type s bov
Greddy profec b boost controller
Emissions delete
Stock lsd

Concerned about removing the rear swaybar as it will be street driven as well. I will look into the rearsteer eliminators. Never heard of them.

Thanks all for the kind words. Very excited to have a clean fc platform to build off.

I have tons of drift seat time from my previous lexus is300 that i dd'ed and drifted :)

streetport89vert 05-30-11 04:26 PM

that sounds good man. taking the rear swaybar off you will only notice on the track i know plenty of people that take both the front and the rears off. although taking the front off you will notice the difference on the freeway its kinda scetchy.

GraemeRx7 05-30-11 05:47 PM

Well perhaps a rear sway bar delete is in order.

So I forgot I made the thread forever ago. Had a hell of a time getting the car built, took until a month ago. Finally took it drifting and BOOM, blew the oil control rings. That's what I get for using a "rebuilt" motor without knowing the rebuild history.

Anyways, everything related to the T2 drivetrain that I have is going to be up for sale. I'm pursuing my original dream of doing an LS swap. :)

Here's a picture of it doing what it was built to do:

Oh man that sucks!! Finally get her all ready, take her out drifting and she blows. Hope you have better luck on your next build!

love the color!

It's pretty unfortunate. I take it as a sign that I should take my time and actually do the swap I want, with a proper engine build.

Supralover 08-24-12 12:29 AM

nice car

GraemeRx7 12-11-12 11:36 AM

So the drift build is heavy under way. Almost a complete rework.

Looks mild enough. But what's really going on is removal of all sound deadening, repairing holes and prepping for the cage install. I also ripped the entire wiring harness out, as I'll be going with a Painless Street Wiring setup to avoid all the hassles and only run the necessities for minimal street driving (to and from the drift track):

Also, the engine has been removed and I'm planning my options. The car will have an LS/LQ motor setup in it. However, the budget recently got reduced due to wedding and new house costs. But sinceI I'd like the car to run the track this summer, I'm weighing my most cost effective options. Currently looking at running a slapped together injected 302 setup, just as a temporary solution. As far as cost vs power, I haven't found many other easy options for myself unless I am lucky enough to happen onto a good deal. Open to suggestions if anyone has any.

looks sick

Nice car bro! sick color. I would suggest getting DTSS eliminator bushings, it will make the car much more predictable in the turns. Also you may want to check out http://fc3spro.com/TECH/DRIFT/dori.html . they give you tons of tips to make your car drift ready

Thanks! I'm rocking the DTSS eliminators already :) I'm also adding a steering angle adder kit from mazdatrix this winter. I learned a lot about setup from JTP's thread here on rx7club, but I'll definitely check that link out.

Did you swap hoods for the LS engine? Nice paint match if you did. Looking forward to seeing the next build

airjordan223 12-14-12 09:31 AM

You need 2 things to drift, power and steering angle!

Have fun with it man.

Ever go to any of the DMCC events?

Not yet. Just some local open drift days. Competitive drifting isn't really my thing. I feel like the competition side of things really crushes the personal touch and style that I love about every individual drift driver.

That being said...you never know whats in the future.

it looks like its winking ;)

Hey man looks like a sweet build! I'm from hamilton and I just bought an 84 FB and i travel all the time up to guelph/waterloo to visit friends at school. After the winters done and if your car is together and you'd be down, I am trying to expand my knowledge of photography and I would love to shoot your car one day. Even make a sweet little drift edit. Let me know and shoot me a pm

Slydwyz 12-21-12 09:56 AM

i love the drifting shot!

Actually, the car was a GXL that I swapped to T2 and had a front mount. So I ran the NA hood for the car's life. I'm hoping I can fit the v8 under that hood too.

Sounds awesome! Our shop is just outside Waterloo, so the build is happening there. There will also be many nights of going out streeting in the snow in the DD's this winter. Just bought myself a GoPro Hero3 Black edition, as I'm always carrying my Cannon t1i. We should meet up.
