Rust on the back of an FB
I recently was able to pick up this 1984 RX-7 GS for free, and I was able to get it started up relatively quickly, but there is a ton of rust on the back, with the front being alright, with there being some on the roof. The roof I think I can salvage by welding new bits of sheet in, but the back light panel on the other hand would be really hard. Do you guys here think that I should just try to stitch the back back together or should I try to track down a new light panel. I've tried a google search or two with no luck except a company that makes them down in Australia. Shipping it to where I am would be almost $2000, much more than I'm willing or able to pay to fix this car. The rest of the car is surprisingly clean, with the trans shifting smooth and the engine running nice. All in all, do you guys have recommendations for getting this panel on the back? Also, a good place to find a replacement sunroof panel? Thank you guys for your help, and I'm glad to have been able to join the rotary community.

If it looks like that and you got it started, drove it and it shifts well I would look for a "roller for sale" and transplant the engine, trans and drive line to a better body. This one was free so what you spend on a roller is your only investment, I think trying to salvage this one would be counter-productive. Guys here are struggling to get the RX7's running and you have a basket case that runs. Look for another body, however, that's just my opinion, and you know what that's worth, good luck and welcome to the forum.

Welcome to forum. That body looks bad Plus what rust you will find when you remove back panel ?

The main thing that is keeping me with the body of this specific FB is that the floors are good, the quarters are good, the front end is in surprisingly good shape, and for some reason the rust around the back is where it's the worst. I've been pulling this car apart slowly and there is one spot of rust in the floor near one of the tubes for the sunroof drain. If possible, I would like to save this body as I have most of the paperwork squared away, I'm not quite sure where to start just as of right now.
