welcome to the forums, just like me! I intend to get an rx-7 too and I'm confident that rotaries are super reliable if you maintain them well. Enjoy the forums!

People tell me this all the time, however, I have never major engine issues with any of my rotary engines. Proper care and maintenance is the best thing and dont beat an old engine up. I imagine there are several articles on how to care for your engine properly
Good luck!

Try to get a shop manual and use it when doing repairs. If you are going to let someone else do the work be very careful about who does the repairs. Mechanics unfamiliar with rotorys make mistakes and can really mess up your car.

Just stepped out into this rotary world myself! Got my ancient 82' fired up without issue after it had been supposedly sitting rotting for a long time. Really hardy engines with the proper love from what I've seen so far.

Loads of excellent posts and guides over the forum to give you an idea on how to make the most of these motors as well - longevity wise!

I think the RX-7 is like any other car - if you take care of it, it will take care of you. If you abuse it, don't expect it to last.

welcome. had myself a rx8 for a year. and is now looking around after totaling my baby into a ditch.

All you need to know about rotarys for upkeep is.
*know a Rotary Technician, in-case you have any problems.
*secondly, keep up with oil consumption. you lose a quarter/third of oil every 500-1000 miles or two fill up basically.
*if you want to do any modding and is worried about the life of your engine, mostly change out everything that has to do with cooling the engine; radiator, thermostat, upgraded hoes ectect stuff like that

Basically with that and a few more mods. you'll be basically golden.

I am also a noob to rotaries, i bought my first car about 4 months ago, 1991 rx7 tII. I was even luckier because it already had aftermarket turbo swapped cosmo re 13b, radiator, the works... engine only has about 36k. i've been keeping up with the oil consumption and what not. any other tips to keep this baby alive? i try not to run her hard. i've heard so many horror stories i'm not trying to detonate my investment
