Rotary Noob
Hello everyone. I have always been a fan of the RX-7 growing up in the 90's so now that I am a grown up
and have more disposable income, I am very excited about actually owning one. However, horror stories about the rotary engine has definitely scared me... In regards to sports cars, I have owned mainly light weights like the Miata and the MR2 so moving up to a RX-7 should be interesting. I have much to learn here.
Thanks,
Simon

still a noob here, its not as daunting as it may seem. i bought my motor half assembled for my datsun thinking how the hell does something go together without cylinders?! and now that i've put everything together it was actually quite easy. i like not having to worry about valve timing or piston knock :P which leads me to a question for any not noobs... what does the knock sensor measure on this motor?!
Honestly, if you treat a rotary well...it will last you a long time. I'm convinced that the horror stories were spread by people who blew their engine from cranking up boost way too high, and putting straight pipes and cat-less exhausts on their cars without a standalone EMS. It only takes one detonation to ruin a good rotor.
Thanks,
Jorge
