Rotary love from the East Coast
 

Hey guys,
The name’s Mitch, I’m from Danbury, CT. I don’t actually own an Rx-7 at the moment, but I’ve been trolling around the site for a few years now whenever I felt like looking up Rx-7 related stuff. I figured now was as good a time as any to actually join and lend my opinion, I haven’t had much experience with rotaries so I won’t be lending knowledge any time soon. I’m looking to get a first gen after I graduate (college). My dad had one years ago and I have very fond memories of it. My plan is to make it kind of like the way he had his. I’d do a lot of things similarly but I don’t want to copy it exactly. Aesthetically from the exterior it would be nearly identical, on the interior and mechanically is probably where things would diverge more. I’ve actually started to make a spreadsheet organizing parts I want to get, and possibilities depending on what exactly I want to do with the car. Haha Maybe I’m being a bit ambitious for the moment.

I like simplicity in general, but since its my first rotary, I figured starting with something cheap and simple would be a good place. And the car looks fantastic, especially with a wide body on it. It has curves in all of the right places. :icon_tup:

I like the spreadsheet idea because thats what I have been doing myself. I've always been told to organize and think out your build thoroughly before even touching the car.

I also just started this adventure into the wild automotive world of rotary. My gen1 is so much fun.

I'm on my 4th RX7 (a 93 Touring) but a first time RX7 club member. I bought it used, 1 owner, with 39,000 miles 4 years ago - only 44,000 today. I had to let my 91 convertible go to make room. The 91 was my wife's favorite but the 93 is growing on her. I had a 82 GXL when I meet her. Put an aftermarket rear seat in for the kids - still have 2 burgondy storage boxes that I had to remove to put in the rear seat. I then got a 88 GSL but sold that after 15 years.

would love to hear about any New England or Connecticut RX7 swaps or meets. I am from central CT (Farmington) but will travell locally.

When you have many ideas/things you want to do, I think the spreadsheet helps out a lot. It makes it easier to decide what you want or need to do first or ahead of something else.



@pacdvm: Gotta agree, I'd be willing to drive a bit to get to meets.

There is a few of us on here that get together a couple times a year for a bbq or drive to a park or something. If you want car shows, im sorry but I havnt seen too many rotary specific ones around CT but could just be out of the loop. if you want a place to show your car you can always check out http://www.dreamziireality.com/2012eventcalendar.htm. they have the most complete list of import related car shows, swap meets and cruise nights around. The site will be updated frequently with a growing list of events. I am usually at alot of these and one of the few rx7's (or old school rotaries) ever there. Would be great so see some more rotaries at the shows.
