Rarity and Price Range of a 1999 RX-7?

I would just like to know, i would really want to own a 1999 RX-7 rather than the 1993-95 models. I will be buying one for sure in college and I want to get something id be more satisfied with. The problem is i dont ever see a 1999 RX-7 for sale yet see one in car shows or in person. I just love the way it looks stock compared to the older models

SmogSUX 01-07-09 03:34 AM

I'll be nice...the 99 models are only in Japan, so you'd have to get it shipped over here, deal with registration BS and getting a title and all the other garbage that goes along with it. People sell 99 spec body panels (Bumpers, spoiler, etc) and it will look just like the 99 spec in Japan.

Pricing...well if you have your heart set on a 99, you'll pay a lot. Shipping cars isn't cheap. And making them legal in the states isn't either.

if it was that easy and affordable, we'd all be driving 2000 and 2001 models

your better bet is to get a 93~95 USDM version that's low miles and in good condition, which is already rare. then modify it to exactly look like a 1999+ JDM model with authentic mazda parts which a lot of vendors in the U.S carry

Supernaut 01-07-09 01:24 PM

This thread is full of awesome.

If your going to go buy the parts, I recommend corksport. Nice fellas. If you want really rare parts, fdnewbieimports.com is the place to go. fdnewbie is on the forums as well so you can shoot him a PM. Nice fella as well.

MidnyteRunner 01-07-09 04:52 PM

i know that its only in japan. i know they stopped selling them here in 1995. im talking about those who already own one that want to sell one. i want to know the range someone would offer it.

u guys misinterpreted my question. i ask this because i dont see anyone selling them online so i wouldnt be able to see how much they go for. i know they are rare but i also know people out there have them. i thought it would be much easier asking it here because maybe someone might know someone who has one.

R-R-Rx7 01-07-09 05:09 PM

i dont know how the regulations are over here when u are about to register a car but the 99-2002 fds are not that expensive. shipping isn't either

staticguitar313 01-07-09 11:55 PM

I don't think anyone in the US is paid the ridiculous costs of having a 99-02 FD imported and modded to be street legal (DOT etc.). It would actually be cheaper to find a decent USDM or even older JDM model and buy the pretty parts to make it a S8 clone. Do a search on importing JDM cars, you'll find your answers there.

Anyone with a post count over 50 needs to GTFO unless your proving good and honest help!!

I catch you guys harrassing new users in the new user section your getting a paddlin.

Supernaut 01-08-09 08:00 AM

I wanted to do the same exact thing as you. There are ways to import the car but they are seedy at best. Some people claim to be able to do it legally but I think thats only in some states. Some guy on the forums told me he could import me a 2000 rx7. I believe he said it was in the mid 20s but that was before rx7 prices dropped like a rock. To import the car the correctly, I believe you have to buy 2 rx7s of the same year and configuration and have one crash tested or something. Either way, importing a 7 would either be prohibitively expensive or to shady for most peoples tastes. I know you want a 99 really bad but you really should go in another direction.

Askmen did a little writeup on it a long time ago so no idea how current it is on importing legally. But heres the link to the articale, good read if anything else.

just curious, has anyone ever gone to http://www.japaneseusedcars.com? they auction and import used japanese vehicles world wide. they even have 2 spirit Rs for aution. i dont think they do the registration or any of the other regulation BS as they claim, but they do import them.

Are you wanting a spec99 series8 for looks only? If so than yes... a usdm with spec99 parts would be the route. TRUST!!!
But if your intrest is in the fact that a series8 is a 16bit ecu, the best of the best turbos, 16bit ABS unit breaks etc. Than I understand your desire. Hit me when your ready and I may be able to help with some leads on finding one out here.

People out here that do have them are asking stupid pricing for them$40s and up. When at that cost you may as well pay the fees yourself and ship it. And to be honest unless you really know what your looking at under the hood inside the car and out.... You neva know what your buying. I have caught severl people in lies trying to say it's a series7 or 8, when I was shopping for mine...

Not to discourge, I admire what you want.... but be ready for the drama of owning a series8. Unless you plan to go MOD crazy... but that would defeat the purpose of your serch to do that.

I wanted the same thing as you but I ended up with a series7 98 RZ that I may end up trading up for a series8 2000 RS.

Best of luck to you, I will help in any way I can..... Late

thanks man i appreciate your help.

As of now, i am in no situation of buying a vehicle anytime soon but its never too early to plan ahead. im turning 17 in march and i really want a car. RX7s are my desire. i came to realize that if i were to buy a 93-95 RX7, i would maybe regret it in the future when i will be able to get my hands on a 99 RX7. I dont want to mod a 93 then later trade for a 99. IMO, thats a waste.

i thought to myself that going out and getting the best would be the best way to save money and time. although this may seem impossible from my age and experience with cars, i still think that if i can be patient, then i will eventually get what i am searching for. i still am currently learning about RX7s and its mechanics but i truly wont know unless i have one or know someone who has one to guide me through which is why i joined these forums.

although in the end, i might just end up getting a 93-95 RX7 but if i can get my hands on a 99, then that would be amazingly great. i dont know how long you will be willing to wait because it will be a long time before i get one but i will contact you when im ready. thanks again.

BTW, i already love the way the 99s look, the only thing i would probably add is new headlights and carbon skirts. performance is what i really want to mod

Checking on your progress man... Whats the world of 7s looking like for you

MidnyteRunner 03-18-11 02:37 PM

oh wow, back from the dead haha. Unfortunately, I never bought an RX7...yet. I couldn't afford it at the time and even if I could, I knew properly maintaining it would really be expensive so I decided to leave the RX7 for the future. I create this thread when I was young and naive lol. I'm turning 19 tomorrow and over these past 2 years, I've learned a lot about cars and what I should/shouldn't be doing.

Right now I've owned my 93 Toyota MR2 since August 09 and its been good to me. Its my starter car and hopefully I'll eventually be able to swap in a turbo engine and push 300HP sometime in the future.
