Persimmon 1984 GSL-SE

Hi there,

Just as I was considering a FB, one popped up locally. I ended up buying it, so I am now the proud owner of a RX7!

This will be my weekend cruiser, as I live close enough to work that I don't need to drive, so hopefully I can keep it lower mileage, as it sits at 92k miles at the moment. The sale included both the louvres and factory matched sunroof, so I'm excited for when next summer rolls around. California car its whole life, so the condition is great!

I was surprised to find the lack of images of Persimmon Red Metallic FB's, but I guess it was only for one MY. I'll try to get some high-def photos once its all washed and cleaned, so stay tuned!

Welcome to the board.

Sounds like a sweet ride ... and 92k. Can't wait to see the photos.

Car looks fantastic!! That color was only available in 84 and its not a common color what so ever. Would love to see more pics! Do you know any history on the car?

Thanks!

Got a chance to give it a quick wash and snap a few pictures. Looks very red from the pictures at certain angles, but it looks much more orange in-person.

The original owner was apparently a vintner up in Napa who bought this for his wife and it eventually became the backup car when she got a new Mercedes. The second owner, who I bought it from, was looking for a clean one at THAT time, as he had owned several others, but this one caught his eye as it was the same as his birth-year, not to mention its condition. He's now got too many projects and cars to work on, so put this one up for sale.

I'll probably start another thread to detail all the things I'm going to fix up, but since this will probably be the first thing as it bothers me the most, can someone confirm if part 8871-59-760 is the correct piece that's broken around the door? How much needs to come off to replace it?

Uploaded some more pictures yesterday, but looks like it's still being "approved". Is there any way to check on this status? I almost thought I forgot to hit "post" lol.

CAUTION: Large photos below!

Finally got around to detailing and grabbing a few pictures of the FB. First pic is next to my Classic Red Miata for comparison:

Thanks for all the kind comments! I love the brown interior as well...until I need to find replacement pieces, haha

I was thinking about throwing on some Koni shocks with RB springs, but a professional oil-pan reseal (it was leaking REAL bad) cut into that budget for the time being. I try to get out to Radwood in the Bay Area, but otherwise I've been letting it enjoy a quiet life.

Guess I forgot to include a shot of the inside. Here you go!:

Looks good dude. My 85' door seals looked really similar as well before I replaced em.

Minor update:
Have some "new" door pull cups on the way from a donor car, but in the meantime, was able to find some door handle covers new for a reasonable price. Painted them with SEM 15483 Bluebird Brown, as suggested in another thread, but it turned out a bit too light. Anyone happen to try SEM 15023 Cordovan Brown before? Looks a bit darker and might be a better match?

Left: old, Right: new

i agree. although it does look good, it could stand to be a little darker.

Rust-Oleum American Accents Satin Expresso seemed to be a great match. Very pleased with the results and matches the trim on the door perfectly (both upper door handle cover and lower door pull cup were painted/replaced).

A little less satisfying was the center console cover from Redline goods I got, as a friend gave me a gift card for the holidays. I probably should have read the whole shpeal on their site about how these probably should be professionally installed, but I'll give it a shot myself when I have some spare time and update with results. Feel kind of duped for spending $20 on a generic piece of padded foam as well (added that upgrade), since I have some laying around that I could've cut if I had to measure it out anyways. Guess I need to ask about the elastic band that was mentioned in the installation guide, since I think mine is missing.

Got the dailies sorted out, so got some work done on the FB.

For peeling sunroof *****, I found just peeling off the plastic cover and respraying the center with PlastiDip Glossifier restores it back to normal:

Also, got some RB Springs Hoping to install the rears this weekend, but fronts are in. Will measure ride height difference once everything gets installed and I give it a week or so to settle.

Thanks!

Finally got some labels from old oil changes off the door that was bothering me for awhile:

Rears are in! Will post pics and measurements once they settle in a week:

My OCD kicked in and I ended up respraying the rear sway bar as well.

Wow! Amazing example!

I have only ever seen one other Persimmon Red which was put up for sale in Australia about 3 years ago. I saved photos at the time in case they came in handy. Here they are in case they assist for reference purposes...

The car is coming together nicely! How does it feel with the new suspension?

Dang, that is one clean FB! Although it's not the same without the pin stripes imo

Got a chance to take it out and grab some pics. The ride height changed only a slight bit, so I guess the original springs were sagging? It definitely feels a lot less "crashy" and more responsive on the new springs.

Ride height, from ground to top of fender, OEM 205/60R14 tires
