One lucky FD find

I’ve been a car guy since I was a little kid helping my Dad work on everything from our 57 Chevy to Volkswagen buses to Ford Galaxies. I’ve owned Classic cars from the 50’ 60’s and even a 1988 Pontiac Fiero Formula. I’ve always loved cars and marveled at the engineering. I’m by no means an expert mechanic but I’m better than average and not afraid to take any project on, provided I have the right tools.
I recently retired from the Fire Department after 15 yrs of service at the age of 40 and went into Disater related property claims. Our company got a red tagged home to cleanup, and in the driveway was a 2004 RX8 Touring and a 1995 Montego Blue RX7 PEP. both looked like junk cars sitting on flat tires with a healthy build up of dirt and calcium on the windows and paint and not running.

Continued

So after realizing the cars were headed for donation I made an uneducated offer and the owner gladly accepted. Both cars had flawless interior and looked like someone had really taken care of them at one time. Fast forward to present, I just got the car back from a specialty rotary shop in Gardena Ca. 82,500 original miles on engine, compression all in the mid 90’s. Had a rotten gas tank and fuel pump. New battery and all fluids changed along with plugs and belts. She runs perfect for now and I’m newly addicted to this one of a kind FD find 😎

So you bought both the RX-7 and the RX-8? How's the interior of the 7 and what shape is the 8 in?

Sorry for the late reply! still getting the hang of this site. The interior in the RX8 was 9.5 out of 10 with custom carbon fiber trim kit throughout and a carbon fiber leather seats, and 18,900 original miles. Was perfect other than faded paint on roof. The 7 interior I would call an 9 out of 10 with original tan floor mats and leather seats with cargo bins in back. Only the defrost grille on front window was cracking. This pretty much is the holy grail of finds as its mostly original FD. I need some advice on reliability mods without over modding.

I am just in the process of finalizing the acquisition of a 1994 Twin turbo rx7 the S totally stock with 60,000kms.
The car is very nice and almost flawless. Should we keep it stock or is it appropriate to mod this car.... what mods are most necessary for reliability and longevity..
i would like to track it a couple of times a year and take it to Asian themed car shows...
the existing wheels have minor curb rash and although the tires are new, they are not performance minded...what would be the suggestion here?
i love the looks and can't wait to feel the performance....I also have a new BMW M2 and think it's performance is outstanding and believe the rx7 will be along the same lines based on its power to weight ratio...
i am open to all suggestions....I would like to maintain the cars integrity and value and not do mods that will jeopardize that...
many thanks...

Thanks for the encouragement...
I have only driven the car once with the owner in the passenger seat, so I was very gentle....even at that the owner said he had never gone that fast....this car is a gem.
for a 25 year old car, it goes and handles quite well...very much looking forward to getting it on the track...I will source a shop that can advise pertaining to the necessary upgrades and ship the car to get it done....
should be fun...
