not new, just never introduced...
hi there, i know some of you already know my car, but i never introduced myself properly...
so here goes i am Ferdi aka Furb, born in '83 and live in The Netherlands... i am busy making a sort of blog about my car on J-Spec.nl when i was 21 i bought my first car and i am very proud to own this car to this day. Mazda RX-7 FC TurboII 1991 Bought it in feb 2005 in an original and remarkable state Car was imported from Germany in 2002 and then had a full rebuild, the rest of the car was also brought up into shape When I bought the car, the engine had only 9200km on it http://94.100.113.14/343000001-34305...04_5_WOR8.jpeg http://94.100.113.14/343000001-34305...02_5_EA3S.jpeg http://94.100.113.14/343000001-34305...05_5_fTPQ.jpeg Did some minor changes over time, but saved my money for a long time and then it all went by pretty fast in a short matter of time Jan 2006 the car was pretty much still stock, but the spec list has grown quite a bit since then! the thing i am most proud of that i have done everything myself, besides the paint ofcourse, and there is nothing to describe the feeling i get when i go and take it for a spin but i'll just make the story short and let the specs and pics do the talking Modifications Engine: - Racing Beat 3” SS dual exhaust - JT-Performance FMIC - Greddy Compression tube - Apexi air intake - Racing Beat Sparkplug wires - HKS SSQV blow-off valve - Racing Beat oil baffle plate - Racing Beat oil pressure regulator - Racing Beat thermal bypass pellet - Racing Beat steel braided oil cooler lines - Racing Beat oil cap - red intercooler hoses Fuel: - Greddy 720cc secundairy injectors - Walbro 255lph fuel pump - Sard Fuel pressure regulator Cooling: - Koyo radiator - Greddy Radiator cap - Flex-a-lite Black Magic fan - Custom radiator panel - Samco coolant hoses Drivetrain: - Corksport steel braided clutch line - ACT Extreme Clutch Suspension: - Silkroad RM/A8 coilover kit - Custom front and rear strut braces - Racing Beat front and rear sway bars - Racing Beat sway bar end links - Racing Beat DTSS eliminators Brakes: - K-sport 330mm 8piston big brake kit - Formel cross-drilled rear brake rotors - EBC green stuff rear brake pads - Corksport steel braided rear brake lines Wheels: - Barracuda Velvet 18” x 8,5J 25mm offset - Barracuda Velvet 18” x 9,5J 25mm offset Tires: - Falken FK451 225/40R18 front tires - Falken FK451 255/35R18 rear tires Exterior: - GP-Sports G-four Aerokit - Shine Sexy-style hood - Border Headlight intake cover - R-Magic mirrors - Custom hood struts Windows: - SL Llumar Windowfilm 35% Lights: - D-Speed clear turning lights. when i had the car running again i ran into some troubles and spent quite some time on figuring them out!
in february the engine was ready for tuning, but fun was over when we got detonation when boost raised above 7psi. we mapped it at stock boost for the moment and power was still already about 250hp instead of the stock 200hp http://www.j-spec.nl/images/stories/...229_dyno/1.jpg http://www.j-spec.nl/images/stories/...229_dyno/2.jpg http://www.j-spec.nl/images/stories/...229_dyno/3.jpg http://www.j-spec.nl/images/stories/...229_dyno/4.jpg http://www.j-spec.nl/images/stories/...229_dyno/5.jpg it took me quite some time to get the info to solve the problems, but it payed off in the end! the cure appeared to be fairly easy as i changed to different sparkplugs (B9EGV) and cranked up the fuel pressure to 65psi at full load. 2nd attempt: still didn't go as planned... thank god i had no more detonation, but we ran into some other troubles. at 15psi the engine stopped producing power after 5k rpm and stopped accelerating. we got stuck on 290 fwhp http://www.j-spec.nl/images/stories/.../rx7/dyno2.jpg also another problem... i replaced the OMP-lines by different ones, but it appeared they could not stand the heat as well as i thought they would. they became soft and got loose on the OMP and due to my fan right in front of it, the entire car got a shower of fine oil-mist. we decided to stop at that point and replace the lines with stock ones before we did damage to the engine. not long after that i got the new lines and ordered a HKS twinpower, because i had the idea that the lack of power was due to the fact that my ignition was not powerfull enough. attempt number 3: all went pretty smooth in comparison to the past. also the twinpower did its job, cause there was no more hesitation at high rpm's now we are pretty much at the max for this setup, cause it is noticable that the stock engine and turbo cannot produce any more power. final dyno figures: 305hp and 420Nm (flywheel) http://www.j-spec.nl/images/stories/...229_dyno/6.jpg http://www.j-spec.nl/images/stories/...y/rx7/dyno.jpg i did another dyno run after that, under slightly better temps and got 280hp and 380Nm at the rear wheels (supposedly 320hp & 440NM at the flywheel) got a dynochart somewhere, but have fo find that first, LOL and for those who want to know how it sounds right now.... movie dyno |
and some more pics...

What a sick build! Total props to you for doing everything yourself. How long of a drive is it to the Nurburgring in Germany? Its one of my lifetime goals to drive the ring. Sometimes I wished I lived in Europe so bad...
|
that is by far the cleanest FC i've ever seen
|
Wow. I hope other FC owners follow, and look to your car for how their car should look!
|
The car looks great! It shows how much detail and time was spent on the bodywork alone.

and ofcourse the project doesnt stop here...
for this winter i have the following planned: - gearbox revision - ACT prolite flywheel - FD UIM & TB with FD compression tube - urethane motor- and transmission mounts - simplify and re-route the motor-ECU wiring loom - replace the fuel lines with steel-braided - get the new hood painted - Ferodo DS2500 brake pads for the K-sport brakes - new tires, possibly the Toyo R888 i am also going to take a look at the possibilities for making a v-mount setup with all the stuff i have now... |
Nice
it is looks great...
|
very sexy car i enjoyed the pics alot.
|
Very nice looks like a lot of work went into that build!
|
dude ur car is the nicest fc ive ever seen in my life just beautiful great work by the way what kind of body kit u got on
|
I love your car... Do you happen to have any high res pictures you could send to kleach18@hotmail.com so I can make it my new desktop?
|
Absolutely beautiful car ive ever seen.
|
Alot of power too
|
great looking car. very very clean.
|
Nice after market parts =)
|
will do an update soon,
i am building everything back together, just waiting for my new fuelrails. put on the ACT prolite flywheel this week. FD UIM and TB are on, no spacer used, just ported the shit out of it! just need to modify the wiring loom for the FD TPS to work. portmatched EVERYTHING, there is a lot of material to be removed if you really check everything closely! this will gain in spoolup and slight increase in flow, tus in power! just need to get the tranny rebuild soon and put it all back in... hoping to be finished near the end of february cant wait to see what HP/TQ numbers i will reach with this new setup, and remember, this is still with stock ports and stock turbo ;) |
wow , nice... i dnt have any kind of legal road racing in ar

Awsome Car Is Awsome!!!

Super clean! I can't believe how spotless the engine was prior to install. Beautiful!
|
been some time now since the last update, but a lot has been done in the meantime...
- FD UIM - FD TB - FD Greddy compression tube - all emissions welded shut - KG-parts red anodised fuelrails - new 550 en 750cc injectors for the rails - Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator - AN fittings for fuel system - ACT prolite 4,3kg flywheel - modified the wiring loom - portmatched both inlet and exhaust manifolds - wastegate ported even further (had boostcreep in 5th) - Forge wastegate actuator - new clear headlights - bi-xenon set 4300k i wanted to get my tranny rebuild, but had troubles finding any companies that were happy to do it. after searching some more, i came across a brand new TII transmission which would cost me LESS then a tranny-rebuild... as you can see a lot of material has to be removed! http://94.100.116.52/475250001-47530...24_5_mnD8.jpeg http://94.100.113.198/475250001-4753...34_5_Yvdq.jpeg engine with some fresh new paint http://94.100.113.29/475250001-47530...47_5_L2HV.jpeg exhaust manifold doesnt match the exhaust ports, so i grinded them down a bit...http://94.100.113.123/475250001-4753...58_5_cj2O.jpeg http://94.100.113.233/475250001-4753...68_5_Ps4G.jpeg http://94.100.115.39/475250001-47530...84_5_hCwu.jpeg ACT prolite 4,3kg flywheel http://94.100.113.32/475250001-47530...91_5_XvR_.jpeg http://94.100.114.55/475250001-47530...36_5_w7ZC.jpeg http://94.100.113.111/475250001-4753...73_5_9lgi.jpeg EGR welded shut (that is why the 3nd rotor tends to run lean first, because the intake temp is lower then that of the 1st rotor!) http://94.100.115.202/475250001-4753...51_5_Xwvf.jpeg testfitment http://94.100.113.222/475250001-4753...23_5_5Pqt.jpeg http://94.100.114.20/475250001-47530...29_5_BG1Y.jpeg |

i see it's been a while since ive posted some updates here. car has been running for a while now and fixed some problems. i had huge oil temp issues, now fitted a 25x30cm oil cooler and temp is now perfect! i broke my stock diff, replaced that now with a torsen type out of an FD. the car feels very strong due to the abnormal amount of low end torque with the stock turbo and stock ports  i am fitting the powerFC next week, 19th of June i'll be going over to the UK to get the car tuned by RE-Worx. |
long time no update, so here it is...
i made the undertray for the radiator and oil cooler, for the water temp it did some good thing but no help for the oil. got 110C just cruising on the motorway! so i ordered a bigger oil cooler, pretty much the biggest one i could find... core is 25x30cm and i mounted it in the center of the radiator, letting the fan pull the air through. air temp on startup goes to 80C, then when th fan kicks in it goes down to 60C. when driving normal it gets 75-80, 85 on the motorway. did some heavy testing one time and it never got over 95C! http://94.100.113.88/613300001-61335...57_5_2Pyw.jpeg some time ago i was just cruising on the motorway and suddenly a loud noise and rattle from the rear end. pulled over but couldnt see anything. luckily i wasn't too far from home, so i took it back to the garage for a quick look. put the car on some stands and let the tires spin. nothing sounded wrong with while accelerating. but when i let off the throttle around 100km/h on the gauge, the rear end started to scream and jump around... so it was time to take the diff out! http://94.100.115.104/575050001-5751...25_5_hGpI.jpeg that did NOT look good! the oil that came out ws somewhat grey metallic and the magnetic plug was covered in chunks http://94.100.115.244/575050001-5751...67_5_bJgX.jpeg the gears had a lot of play if you just wiggle the axles around. the locking pin on the center axle was broken and got shifted from side to side. the axle was pushed out of the housing on both sides and absolutely destroid the final gear. http://94.100.116.142/575050001-5751...73_5_O2rz.jpeg http://94.100.118.47/575050001-57510...96_5_cD-2.jpeg http://94.100.118.109/575050001-5751...70_5_cKUy.jpeg http://94.100.118.100/575050001-5751...90_5_xuml.jpeg oddly enough, the crown isn't damaged at all http://94.100.116.15/575050001-57510...13_5_-A6g.jpeg so its time to replace everything... and i wanted an LSD and looked around, but aftermarket like KAAZ is just way too expensive! so i decided to go for the FD Torsen diff... made a call toone of the rotary guys here and got myself another FC diff from which i used the final drive and a FD torsen unit, all with not too many miles or abuse. and that for just €250,- only thing was that i wanted to replace the front diff mount, due to te fact it is an absolute pain to replace! got a stock mazda part, so no competition mount. then i put the FD unit in the FC housing and i was really surprised how well this all went. i used to work at a printing company where i did maintenance on the big presses and have aligned a lot of sprockets in the past. so i did this with NO measuring at all, just pure feeling and intuition! http://94.100.113.55/577800001-57785...48_5_HUDw.jpeg |

replaced the standard running lights and JDM FTP's with LED's, now the color matches the Xenon headlights. before and after shot img]http://94.100.114.87/612950001-613000000/612969301-612969400/612969396_5_WsnU.jpeg[/img] http://94.100.115.81/612950001-61300...03_5_uzp-.jpeg |
some new plugs.
found them on RHDJapan and did some searching. they are supposed to be THE plugs for rotary, so why not give it a try! i am really straining the engine with the stock turbo, so its never a bad thing to have some good sparks! in the past i had problems with detonation with the stock plugs and already stepped over to B9EGV. these are also the same size as stock, so no need for a special socket. http://94.100.114.180/612950001-6130...15_5_bV25.jpeg http://94.100.118.61/612950001-61300...09_5_xINp.jpeg http://94.100.113.112/612950001-6130...55_5_2ON7.jpeg http://94.100.113.154/612950001-6130...51_5_Hfmh.jpeg made an airbox for the new situation with the PowerFC. the MAF will be removed so i had to make a new intake. got a funnel in the front bumper whichs leads into a 2,5 inch pipe leading straight to the airbox. that should free up some HP as well, as i dont suck in any warm air anymore. its now a quick fix with the ducttape, just needed to get it working. plan on making a nice aluminium housing in the near future. http://94.100.116.169/612950001-6130...45_5_tE37.jpeg http://94.100.114.96/612950001-61300...51_5_1Lif.jpeg http://94.100.118.87/612950001-61300...14_5_Kqot.jpeg http://94.100.114.23/612950001-61300...10_5_jUxG.jpeg http://94.100.113.134/612950001-6130...04_5_dYj2.jpeg tuesday MOT and friday i am going over to the UK, to get it tuned at RE-Worx. then driving to Wellingborough for a good nights sleep and in the weekend i will be attending Japshow at SantaPod! |
