TX Noob who has owned 2 FD's

Hey guys, Kusanagi here, just wanted to introduce myself, and tell you the story of a broken man - but I'm sure as most of you have already experienced, owning an FD is NO easy feat.

I purchased my 1st FD in 2006, from an AWESOME private seller in Utah. I was stationed in the USAF in New Mexico at the time, and everything was AMAZING. Until it started snowing, and I started to have alot of problems with the car. I took it to one of the "best" rotary mechanics 2 towns over (Albuquerque), and it took him 6 months (and $5k) to "rebuild" the engine. As it turns out, the car wasn't fixed right, and still had ALOT of problems. I left the military in 2007 and moved back to San Antonio to get a new job. On the day of my interview, after I accepted the position, I wrecked my FD on Highway 410 (at the I-10 intersection) for the world to see. It was one of the worst days of my life. If you've ever destroyed a piece of art, you'll know where I am coming from.

After watching my baby be towed off, i decided to get another FD. Just my luck, I found another one locally and purchased it without even thinking about it. Turns out, that was a bad decision. The car had blown stock turbos, and I needed to get it fixed before it was too late. But I still drove the car daily. Big mistake come 3 months later, after I had already purchased a new turbo for the car. I blew the apex seals, and the car stopped moving.

Welcome to 2011, where the car still sits in my garage and hasn't moved in a number of years. I now finally have the finances to be able to fix the car, and now I can't find a decent or reliable mechanic in the area.

This is where I come to the graciousness of the forum and ask for your forgiveness and assistance. I attempted to post in the TX-South forum, but needed 3 posts to get started - so here is your first.

Hopefully I can be an active member in the community (up until this gets blocked from work) and learn alot from you guys.

Thanks for hearing my plight, and hope to hear from the community on this one!

Ouch...well, at least it's still an FD. Sounds like the beginnings of a good restoration tale. There's def a strong rotary presence in San Antonio, so start that thread in the South Forum!

Thanks for the story and welcome aboard to RX-7 Club!

the fun part of restoring is doing it yourself.
get a FSM, find some buddies and work on it on weekends.
you'll see it's more fun then paying someone to do it.
also, the best person for the job is you cuz you'll know
how detail you want.
good luck.

RB26 swap would be nice...

I know a couple guys in North Texas that would put some wrench time into your FD, one friend specializes in rotary engines, most of them are reputable within the DFW.
