New user in NC

I have been thinking about getting a project car for awhile, and I've finally set my mind of geting an rx-7.

For a long time I had been thinking of getting a 300zx, but I have decided that might be a bad idea for someone eithout too much experience wotking on cars.

I think I would like to work on a first gen rx7.

I'm new to the scene as well, but I know the Wankel is a-whole-nother animal so get ready to learn how to fix cars one way or the other lol.

Serious note I'm sure the people here will be a good source of help when/if you need it.

Welcome, im around the Greensboro area own a non running FD. Raleigh has a good rotary group that can be found on facebook I think under Raleigh Rotary Car Club or something like that. Deals Gap Rotary Rally in the mountains is coming up also so could be a way to learn a few things about the SA/FB from other owners if you could make it.

welcome guys. yep, first gen is the way to go. easy to work on, non of that electronics stuff to complicate things. also, u all need to check out the SE regional section.

So far I'm liking the Gen 1 and Gen 2 guys better already lol

No offense Demon :)

Non taken, started with a FC (2nd gen) when 15ish, sold got a rx8 around 20. Traded that for a speed3 at 22 and got a "recently rebuilt" but wont start cheap mostly complete 95 roller last may. Getting the funds together for a proper rebuild, tune, and other goodies. I was pushing for April/May having the funds but might be June/July now. The car damn near landed in my lap and I couldn't pass up what might have just been a flooded motor, so I gambled and lost, but at least I'm back in a 7.

MC90 03-23-17 12:17 AM

That's quite a resume! I was trying to get anew FC in high school but couldn't get rid if a Bronco fast enough. Ran across an FD last week at an auction and got me looking at these again lol

Hopefully your build doesn't take too long it's never fun having a toy sitting because of funds.

Demonsniper1 03-23-17 12:29 AM

Well the funds was for a new lefthanded Accuracy International AT rifle when I grabbed the 7 and i had to think real hard which would be more fun. Then you have me back in school so cash isn't what it once was, but bills are payed and rebuild fund keep growing and just a few k short right now. The 7 hopefully will be back on the road by end of summer so I can enjoy the fall roads up in VA/NC mountains.

MC90 03-23-17 12:46 AM

Ah yes, I get to enjoy that back to school dealings soon enough myself. I think you made a very good choice to pick up the 7 instead.

I'm in Greensboro actually. It looks like I might have a reason to use facebook again.

I'm from NC, but currently live in MD. I'll be moving back down there very soon though. Hopefully in the next 2 months if all works out. Charlotte, and Raleigh both have good groups.

The facebook group can be found here --> https://www.facebook. com/groups/RaleighRotaries/ <--- I put some spaces in between the . and com portion because it wasn't letting me post the address for some reason. Just take the spaces out and it'll take you straight to the page though.

But NC is flooded with rotary enthusiast and a few good builders too. Seems to be one of the better states for rotards that I've come across. Has a good split of FB, FC, FD and SE3P(RX8) guys all around. I have family in Winston Salem so I'll be up there regularly once I come back down. Will also be trying to start orchestrating a monthly bbq or something of the sort. So you'll have plenty of company and people to learn from.

RX7's can be a very difficult and frustrating path though if you don't have mechanical experience. Don't let it discourage you though, because once you start to get the hang of it every second is worth it. You just have to learn some patience, and usually have a daily that you can rely on if you really start modifying it. Welcome to the group club btw! And read, read ,read ,read, read. There's endless amounts of information here, so any question you have probably have been answered a few times already.
