New to RX7's
 

I'm new to the whole RX7 scene, a friend with a R1 intrigued me about them, and i'm really hoping to own one soon. I've been looking around at V8 conversion that i plan to do on one of the "rollers" i've seen around this site, but all i've seen is LS1 conversion. Has anyone ever heard of a 302 conversion on a third generation RX7? i'm not sure where exactly to post this, but i figured someone would direct me to the right place in this forum.

Nope never heard of a 302 swap probably because the LS1 is a much better engine IMO. 302's are generally put in miata's.

yeah most people go with LS series swaps

Thanks for the warm welcome, and yeah i definitely agree the LS motors are better, but here's the thing... i was kinda hoping to twin turbo charge it. I found a guy who put and LS1 in a third gen RX7 at this site:

and i have to say, although the motor looks like it should have been in there in the first place, there doesn't look like much room for turbos. However, the 302 is about 4 inches narrower, and definitely a lot cheaper. So that's my first choice, but i have no clue if it's even possible. Looks like i might have to go with an LS1

thanks for the link, i've seen a lot of 302 swaps for the older rx7's, i'm assuming because they were more limited on space than the third gen, but that's just stipulation. Where should i post on this site to find someone who could tell me if a twin turbocharged 302 would fit in a third generation RX7? i have no problems fitting a V8 in one, my dad put a 350 in his friends a few years back, but neither of us are sure that there will be enough room for the turbos and all the plumbing

Looking at the size of the engine bay and the size of the motor, i think a remote mount turbo would likley be the most realistic choice. you can go to the ststurbos website and gain some ideas on how to custom fab a kit.

a remote turbo would definitely be more reasonable, but they lose a lot of efficiency, and for the price of those kits, i would probably just consider getting a magnuson super charger
Nice thing about normal turbos is i get can them for about $150 a piece, can't beat that lol
