New Rx-7 Owner
 

Hi everyone! My name is Leah and I’m happy to be apart of this group!
About two months ago I purchased a 91 Rx-7. It doesn’t run and I’m not sure how long it was sitting before I bought it. It’s a big project, which is the whole point, and I can’t wait to bring it back to life. I’ve gotten a few parts for it and I have already run into some trouble trying to find what I need. I’m familiar with vehicles mechanically, but I’m definitely no expert. So, I’m hoping you guys can help me along my journey when I get stumped. I’m super excited to learn more about these beautiful cars and to be able to say I worked on my own to get her back on the road!

welcome to the forum. u shouldn't have any problem getting help to get the 7 back on the road. how's the underside? if ur able, check out the 2nd gen section.

Welcome to the forum!! The car appears to be very restorable and the 91 model year is desirable as there were only 6986 RX-7's sold in 1991. Do you know any of the car's history? How's the interior?

The guy I bought it from knew nothing about it besides it sitting and not running for years. I’m assuming someone passed away that had the car in their name, because the guy who sold it to me wasn’t on the title, and he was able to sell it.
The interior is great besides some ripped carpet, the snake skins and mice droppings left in the car! I have already stripped the interior.

It has a bit of rust but I was expecting that for it to be sitting for so long, but definitely not as bad as you’d think!
I haven’t had in mind what I’d wanna do with it yet but, if anything, for now yes keeping it stock. Just trying to get it started is my main focus. I got this vehicle as I’m super eager to learn more and handle a rotary myself!
It has 150,000 miles and I know it’s a lot but if I have to my plan is to rebuild the engine.

Since it hasn't run in an unknown amount of time, the first thing I would do as a precaution is crank it over by hand with a 19mm socket. Adding a few teaspoons of 10w-30 in the Trailing (Top) spark plug holes is probably a good idea too, it's anyone's guess when the apex seals last got any lubrication. Turn it over a few times to let the oil coat the surfaces, while feeling how it turns over for any signs of sticking, missing compression strokes, etc. If it feels okay, do a Compression Test. It will tell you in no uncertain terms what you're dealing with. Here's the procedure:

Glad to hear that you're still with us and still working on the car! You'll likely be dealing with a dead fuel pump, a nasty tank, bad fuel filter, and clogged injectors. We can help you get through that and get the car back up and running! Can't wait to see more pictures of the car!
