New to the rotary world. Need to rebuild my engine.

Finally gonna try to fix the Rx-7 that's been in my garage for 12 years. My dad bought it a long time ago, he started to tear it down but never got around to pulling the engine. 11 years later i'm finally tired of having a bad ass car that doesn't run. So I've taken it upon myself to try to breath life into it.

Welcome aboard, Z! What year Rx-7 is that and what's the name? Everything you need to know or buy can be found withing these 'walls", so have at it!

Its a 1985 gs. Its got a 12a, i'm having a bit of trouble with the carb. I also need to know how to flush out the fuel system. I'm not sure if my fuel pump is working.

After this answer, start a thread in the New Member Tech section, since this is the intro board...on the 85, you're not going to hear the fuel pump click on when the key is turned over and clicks on the ACC or IGN circuits. The engine itself has to be turning to complete the circuit that powers up the fuel pump. The EASIEST way to test is to have a buddy listen for the fuel pump while you turn the engine over. He/she should be by the driver's side tire listening to an area in front of that wheel under the car. If you put your head on the ground, you can see the fuel pump shield and the hoses leading into it. Pop the question in the other board for other, more definitive ways to test the fuel pump. 9 times out of 10, it's actually the fuel filter that is the problem anyway.
